    Hey Everyone,
I got an unconditional offer for the PGDE in Glasgow University, an now the euphoria has died down, money issues are kicking in, Are Irish students classed as EU students? and can we get any grants, or scholarships, or do co. council grants cover studying in UK?
or should I turn it down and try Eng or Wales instead?

any info would be gratefully recieved!

Grants for post graduate studies only cover universities and colleges on the island of Ireland (repub & North) they can not be given to students studying in England, wales, Scotland etc.

I did my masters in Northern Ireland and got a grant for it through the VEC but they would not cover me had I been going to anywhere outside of the 32 counties

Hi Congrats on getting your place!

Don't know if the situation is the same for Scotland (hope it is) but for rest of Uk I've been told by the Adult Education Advisor at my local VEC that if un-employed for 9 months ... if it started before Dec last ... you will be entitled to the Back to Education Allowance ... basically the dole for the duration of the course ... 196€ weekly. Also in the UK you get £4000 bursary for primary (& more for some courses at Sec level) & can apply for a student loan, only repayable when working & earning over a certain amount( dunno what it is exactly). Not bad at all .... would be around £16000 a year stg!!!!!!!! Big help!!!!!

Can't get any grant since Christmas ... budget changes.
If you stay there to teach after qualification you also currently get a Golden Hello of around £5000 .

These only apply to post grad education courses as far as I know.

You should make an appointment with your local VEC adult education guidance councillor who whould be able to give you clearer information. Really hope it works out like this for you. Good luck at college.
