O2 Not Running VOIP On IPhone

    Hi All
With Apple recently allowing 3G calls via Skype or Fring, etc, I waited with bated breath for this to come on stream. Having called O2 today they advise me that they will not be running this on their networks.
The reason they gave is the data usage. They say they can not have an accurate estimae on what data will be used per call. One 5 min call to USA over Skype might use 5MB, but the next time for the exact call it might use 50MB. Thats the reason.
I totally disagree with this because when I was running 3GUnrestrictor on my Jailbroken Iphone (Which is now Unjailbroken due to my stupid idea to update on Itunes ) it used very little data and I'm on the 1GB Bundle. Why do we always get shafted with Irish carriers not providing a full service. Maybe someone out there can enlighten me on this.

people should know by now that 02 will not allow anything that's fun or useful, or maybe they will, if you pay extra...

Simple solution is move operator when the chance arises..

I'm with meteor with a 3gs and have no issues..i am allowed to tether without paying extra, I'm allowed to stream video and use voip..which is they way it should be..they sold me a data bundle and I use it

O2 sell you a data bundle, then then proceed to tell you what you can and can't do with it...instead they invent new charges for using your data in ways they decide they don't like..

Fring works fine over 3G/EDGE. There's no restriction on O2's 3G when it comes to VoIP, as far as I can tell.

Skype currently has a block in the app to stop it working on non-WiFi connections, but I believe that's the case worldwide, and it's something that the Skype developers added themselves.

    HI Vinny
Yes I'm aware of that but it still does not work on 3G. I hope I dont have any setting wrong on my IPhone which is stopping me from using Fring, Nimbuzz, etc.

Well, I'm not sure how I just made a Skype call over 3G using Fring so... :p

Do you have the latest version of Fring from the App Store?
