USB to SATA/IDE

Hi all,
Anyone know where I'd get a cable that would allow me to connect a Sata or IDE hard drive to my laptop via. USB for copying files, running scans etc. ?? There seems to be a few on ebay but I've a feeling they mightn't be great.

No, in additional information it says a power adaptor is included.

Only does sata (but who uses ide these days anyway?!?).
With esata i get ~80Mb/s read and ~30Mb/s with usb. So it performs very well and has stood up to regular use since november.

Looking at the price of the one in Komplett wouldn't it be easier to just get a cheap disc caddy instead?

And what size is the drive in question? 2.5" solutions are usually USB-powered, but 3.5" units typically need an external power source. And that's what tends to bring me back to a cheap-ish Akasa caddy (not sure how good the IcyBox ones are) instead of eBay fodder and no-name generic units (which usually turn out to be related to Manhattan/eMagic ) as the Akasa and better generally resist the temptation to, ah, self-immolate :eek: You wouldn't believe how awful some of those power bricks are...

Of course, if you're using lots of different HDDs in there its best (if not always cheapest) to get a dock instead, but again, be wary of the power bricks/wall warts on cheapo models! :eek:

Have a look about for a QuickPort, they will let you quickly and easily swap SATA 2.5" and 3.5" drives and connect via either USB or eSATA .

Nice kit for a tech (like moi ). But I hate seeing nakey drives lying around in the open simply on principal. They're just begging for some impact- or liquid-related calamity to befall them...
