Are United Tyres Donnybrook Best for Wheel Alignment

Was in today because after hitting a pothole in my X5, the steering began pulling a little to the left. Someone told me this affects tyre wear aswell, and at 350 a pop i was worried!

Guy inside tells me its 70quid!

In fairness he shows me round whats done and explains it takes a good 40 mins (accurate reading and all that) plus says the tracking is 'guaranteed' so can come back again in two months for another one on the house.

Is all this necessary?? Seems overkill to me, like the automotive equivilant of a wine tasting when i want the house red?:P

Its like anything really- you get what you pay for!

I know for a fact that united tyres have a RAV alignment system set up using lasers and is more accurate (been in a few times). As far as i know only one other crowd in dublin has one, somewhere on the north side.

Ive had my pride and joy aligned by fast fit before and they made a dogs dinner out of the thing, came out worse! A modern laser system is seriously the only option i'd choose.

They're under new management too so you might be able to haggle on tyres/alignment deal.
    Good luck!

I went to Atlas near Kylemore for my alignment. They use laser devices which sounds similar to what Donnybrook will be using.

I paid €65 for mine, i was told it's more expensive because of the 4 wheel drive... (Audi TT Quattro)

I got mine done last year and the car is still going dead straight so it's worth it

I had a TT quattro myself. I cannot see why it should cost more. Yes 4 wheel alignment has to be carried out but this is also the case for most modern cars that have track adjustment at the rear. The toe settings would be different depending on whether car is front/rear/four wheel drive but these settings are on the system so TT shouldnt cost more really.

Lazer alignment is only as good as the operator. I once had an alfa 166 done with a lazer system and it was so wrong that you wouldnt believe

theres a place at the back of Finglas Auto Parts on the St. Margarets Road that does the 4 wheel laser alignment for 55euro. Well it was last year when i got my last car done.

70euro sounds steep to be honest at that Donnybrook place, sounds like your paying because of the dublin postal code!

Although what i find more interesting is that a first time poster asks questions about a particular place and then is replied to by another first time poster who just happened to have used them before!

And for an X5 to need alignment done after hitting one pothole sounds extreme, i had my E53 4.4 version in the fields out by me without a probelm (not saying its a work horse, and the fields were not that extreme).

^ Potholes on roads are in a different league to the ones you get in fields though.....

plenty of places can do a 4 wheel laser alignment, but few can do it properly, there is also a big difference between the machines and software that they use,

id be inclined to spend more and get it done right

the equipment they have in donnybrook appears to be top of the range from the research that i have done, the only other place i can recommend at the moment is dave mccann tyres in castleknock

but he will charge the same
