This is just a Rumor but according to Play.tm has reported that "sources close to Sony" have alleged that Killzone 3 will be coming out this year just in time for the Holiday rush. Christmas time is the season...
It has also been said it will indeed feature the motion control arc.. and also be in 3D for people.. :D

    link from article here http://www.qj.net/qjnet/playstation-3/rumor-rumor-more-killzone-3-details-2010-holiday-release.html

Must finish the first one after my thesis!

3D games now??? I haven't taken to this 3D lark at all, maybe it'll be good for gaming, I'm not so sure though!

i think a very small amount of people will enjoy 3D prospect , but if its the case i have to get a new tv to do it , not gonna happen , also from what i seen about 3D televisions you have to sit very close to your tv to get it working , can destroy the eye sight and give you headaches :L

I'd take that story with a mountain of salt. Look how long it took to make KZ2. I be amazed if 3 was out at the end of 2011 never mind this year.

Sony claims it can add 3d ability through a firmware update but then the games will have to be made to support this. And even then you will need to get new HDTV with a 200hz screen for it to actually work. The only HDTVs with that now cost around 2 grand.

PS3 motion controller has not even been finalized so how they are making games that can support is features is beyond me. The 360s was shown last year and the first game to support it won't be out till the end of this year.

While I am skeptical, the team in Holland are 120-strong. They need to push content out more then once every 4/5 years (excluding DLC and the PSP game), and the KZ2 engine is one of the best on any machine, let alone the PS3. The leap from KZ2 to 3 could easily be a year, or a little more to push it into early 2011 using the same tech, or an improved version of it.

3DTV's are the next gen and cool, but considering most people only bought HDTV's in the last year or two, the tech isn't going to make any considerable jumps anytime soon. But Sony do have plans to push 3D through HDMI1.3 by issuing a firmware update that basically renders two images at the same time, both 1080i (or 720i) to achieve 3d effects. I doubt it'll require a 200hz tv by standard, but would benefit with such a setup.
(Note: I'm not 100% certain on that, but I am fairly sure of myself)

Well in fairness no hardware is finalised until production but they can estimate what the technology will be like/will do. Guerilla will have a pre-production kit in their offices to test and use, and Sony will update it as they go through various versions of it. That's the benefit of being a first-party developer I suppose :)

Capcom and Media Molecule already have shown what the motion control is done for resident evil 5 and Little Big planet , talkin 360 natal they even showed what there trying to do , natal will fail cause if u look at what they showed through the demo it was half a second slow and not accurate plus the amount of same you need in your house to use it cause it need to show your full body not gonna work only shown your head or waste . i just went way off topic :P

given that they already have the game engine built the dev time for KZ3 would be very short compared to KZ2. However i see holiday 2010 as too soon and Q1 2011 would be more realistic. GDC is coming up so im sure we will hear something about it there

Fairly sure the "standard" is 120Hz, 2x NTSC. Depends on where they're at now with PAL/NTSC though.

Not sure I care about 3d. Though Killzone 2's online play was pretty damn good....so more of that, with a better single player and it would definitely be high on my list.

Considering how big an IP KZ is for Sony, they would not keep it secret for so long before release. If it were to be released this year it would have been teased at at last years E3. Killzone 2 was all over the place from 2006 until it finally came out. Sony could not stop hyping it up. For it to be released this year it would have to have been more or less finished at last years E3 and they would have spent all this time testing, polishing and debugging the multiplayer yet not a screenshot has been leaked.

If Sony do announce this at E3 '10 and have a set release date for this xmas, then very well done to them and Gurilla for the cover up and secrecy kept up until now.

Meh, both Killzone games were decidely average and this new 3D malarcky is an expensive gimmick that a tiny percentage of people will ever take advantage of.

A killzone release date is about as much use as a unicorn hunter.

KZ2 single player was average, if not below average....but the online competitive was good. I think they got the balance of play pretty good, similar to MW (though not MW2, where the a bad team with one great player will still beat a team with 8 good players)

i agree to dis- agree , killzone 2 had put the bench mark on shooters only reason it didnt get the same remarks from critic from other shooters like call of duty and halo is cause majority of people are to lazy to learn a new control system compared to other games , killzone 2 had the hole world jaw dropped with the graphics , the gameplay mechaics were as solid as any other shooter that made you feel like you were at war , Modern warfare 2 took every idea from killzone like sentry gun , spawn gernades even soap looks just like tomas schevnko ..
you may not have enjoyed it or taught it was ok but killzone 2 and even 1 by no way in hell adverge shooters imo!!!!! :D

There's a big difference between making a game from scratch on a new system and making a new game based on an existing engine that they've already developed for the system. Around a year and a half sounds about right for a sequel. I'm guessing it'll be pushed back to around March next year though.

Was the single player campaign worth playing through in KZ2? I got to the second level bu then just stuck to the multi-player. It happens me with every FPS.

Definitely, I generally focus on the single player in most games first and it's definitely one of the better ones and I haven't quite finished it yet!

I really enjoyed it. Better for me on SP and MP than MW. There, I said it. Only because I found KZ2 easier, certainly in the MP.

It falters a bit in the middle, too many bloody samey factory/industrial levels, but the opening and especially the final level are immense, the last assault actually fells like you're part of a unti with a half dozen other guys all running and gunning with you, and they encourage you to fight harder and actually kill Helghast in non prescripted sequences unlike MW2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,366 ✭✭✭Star Bingo

i never even finished KZ2. that room you're shacked up in with helghast spilling into it? couldn't do it. tried it a great many time - you know when you select hard and a game becomes a chore? or just one scenario, often frustratingly near/at the end. that bit was genuinely impossible for me  musta come close a few times..

Killzone 2 had one of the best boss fights those who have cleared it know what im talkin about

when you have snipers who can cloak themselves invisible
soldiers who can disguise themselves as the enemy
have a big badass with explosives
have medics wearing gloves with blood on them

you have the most badass fps out there , those who dont except its awesomess minds cant control it

only thing killzone 2 fails is been a disappointment

    also guys remember the ending
    killzone 3 gonna be immense

The MP is Killzone is absolutely fantastic and had so many clever aspects. The rolling game modes idea was genius and I'm surprised no one has copied it since. The class system worked great. The copied a fair bit from other games but it all came together brilliantly. The clan support was fantastic, the fact that you could organise it all on the killzone webpage was great too.
