    Hi there,
Seeing as you’re one of our customers, wouldn’t you expect to get a better offer on our broadband than anyone else. We think so too.

So now you can get a Prepay Broadband modem for just €29, that’s €20 off the normal price.

With our Prepay Broadband, there are no bills or no contracts. You just top it up as you go, just like your prepay phone. And topping up is easy too; it’s a simple €19.90 a month or €3.97 a day to access your broadband.

If you like the sound of it, then just click below and we’ll whizz you to our online store. Once you’re there, use the promotional code below to get your €20 off your modem. Simple.

    Thanks,

    Siobhan Lynch, O2 Broadband Team

PS. If you’d prefer billpay broadband with a monster 15Gb of usage, you can use your €20 off code for this too.

    YOUR PROMOTIONAL CODE IS: BBDOFFER

Got this email today and thoght i'd put it out there if anyone wants it.

If you opt for the monthly payment is there a download cap? Knew a girl who had this on the daily and she said it was costing a lot more than €3.97 per day. Is there a cap? Also what is it like, she said some sites would not load?

Seems a good deal on the modem but for the broadband service you will have to live in areas with a strong O2 coverage. For where I live the O2 coverage is much better then Vodafone but I still can't justify paying all that for something that only works as a modem! Mobile phones with builtin modems are much better... And I think very soon these modems will be/should be outdated.

What do you mean by Mobile phones with builtin modems? That any phone that can go on the net? Also do these 02 modems have firewalls, no?

A relation has a touch screen phone something like these at http://images.google.ie/images?hl=en&complete=0&q=lg+touch+screen+phone&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=HNCDS8CpAZn20gT84vTQAg&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CB8QsAQwAA

    Is that what you mean?

just be aware that the €29 refers to a used modem: (prob all the ones they were loaning out to 'try broadband for a month' ??)

My LG phone functions as a modem if you connect it to the computer via USB. (Not sure if it's possible to use it via Bluetooth). You then pay the standard mobile phone charges, which for Meteor is 99c a day for 50MB (more than enough for what I'd use it for).

My Nokia N97 works as a modem/wireless router using Joikuspot software. I can connect my laptop via wireless to the internet , but you would need to purchase a data plan, otherwise it could cost you a small fortune.

I meant any mobile which has HSDPA, this is basically a modem built into the phone. So you can connect the mobile to a laptop or desktop and use broadband. This is basically the same as using a broadband modem the only change here is using a mobile which has the same broadband modem builtin.

Like for home use we have dialup, broadband etc... for mobile too there are different ways to use the net. So not every mobile that can access the internet has a builtin modem. Look out for HSDPA in the mobile phone specifications.

The cheapest and good value mobile with builtin modem for me will be the newly released Nokia 5230. Its cheap at €99 on o2 speakeasy prepay and it has a builtin modem. Even the o2 says "Key features - HSDPA ? This phone can be used as a Broadband modem".

Also remember that HSDPA has limits, like some are max 3.2MB while others can be 7.2MB. Not that it makes a difference as I have yet to come across a network that actually has speeds of 3.2MB. The phone will also have to be connected to a laptop or desktop just like you would have connected the modem. Mostly its via USB cable.

For LG I think the Viewty has HSDPA but not the cookie. The last time I used Mobile Broadband was on the Three Network with a Samsung Tocco F480 and in my area it was quite enough but even a 1MB home broadband connection is way faster then any mobile "broadband" connection.

While it is possible to connect wirelessly, I am not too sure about the speed of that. Mobile broadband is already slow and it just makes it worse wirelessly.

Have you tried to compare the different ways you can connect?

Do you know if it will record phone calls? I looked at it but do not see this referenced. Where would i get one unlocked that i can put my chip in. I presume the sim card is the same size?

Problem with using your phone as a modem with o2 is they wont sell o2 prepay broadband sims on their own, it has to be bought with a package.

My understanding is that calls are recorded using software and not with something built into the phone. I don't see why you can't record calls... there has to be some software which will allow you to do that. All sim cards are the same size. Unlocked ones are a bit more expensive, around €179.
If you are an o2 customer and have used over €120 or so in top-ups then o2 gives you an unlock code. I am not too sure if this has changed so better check it out with o2 first or you can use the Mobiles & PDAs forum.

o2 are absolute snakes when it comes to mobile broadband.

I have it with them and despite being slow at peak times (but i suppose most services are) they also block sites without any mention of it in your contract

Likewise they will full on ride you in the bum for money if you go the slightest kb over your limit

They all are really. You gotta read the small print.
I have it with them and despite being slow at peak times (but i suppose most services are) they also block sites without any mention of it in your contract.
Use Open DNS and that problem disappears.

Likewise they will full on ride you in the bum for money if you go the slightest kb over your limit
O2 are the cheapest in fairness for over usage. 3 charge 5 cent per kb over limit.

Hi Senna, I think o2 does sell O2 prepay brodband simcards on their own with out the modem, please visit the following link:http://www.o2online.ie/shop/broadband/mobile/
    Details as per O2:
Prepay Broadband SIM with €20 Credit

    * Online exclusive
    * Instant access to prepay broadband
    * Great to give to your friends
    * Works with any O2 modem
    * Includes €20 credit and a 24hr Pass

hope you can insert this card to O2 hsdpa phone and use it as the modem... Does anybody have experience using this prepay simcard as modem with i phone 3GS?

    Or

Does anyone have experience surfing internet with O2 prepay mobile broadband with iphone 3GS hsdpa (3.5G) - does it work ?
My question would be, if you use 02 prepay broadband simcard with the iphone, would you be allowed 5GB download per month (as you are allowed when using O2 modem) or would O2 gives you only daily 50MB download limit and then charge you their 0,99€/MB download rate subject to O2 standard policy for prepay simcards?
