a crown differs from a veneer insofar as it wraps around the whole tooth. a veneer just covers the front surface. The choice between doing a veneer or a crown depends on your initial problem. Yes, front teeth can be crowned.
In my experience, most people who come to my office requesting veneers don't actually need them. Get a checkup first to establish what is wrong with your teeth and see what the dentist recommends. If the dentist advises veneers, then that's probably the best choice. But it's possible you just need a couple small fillings....

thanks, 3 of my front teeth have small pieces broken off. my own dentist is a lovely man but not too radical. these teeth are worn as well. would fillings do the job?

Impossible to say Des without seeing you. any chance of uploading a photo? how old are you? are you missing other teeth? do you grind your teeth (nighttime usually)?
You need to figure out what caused the wear before deciding on treatment options.

Veneers are very technique sensitive and can go horribly wrong.

    Hi Des

It sounds like your dentist is conservative and in my opinion that is no bad thing for a dentist. Once a tooth is prepared for a veneer or crown it is irreversible. From what I have seen it is the dentist that goes in gung ho that causes most problems, not the cautious and conservative one.

I would go and discuss with your dentist again, there may be a more straightforward, effective, better and cheaper option

I hate the "little england" daily mail, the indo & telegraph("torygraph") were my papers in Blighty, but they wouldnt publish an article like that.
