Opel Kadett "CEAD"

Just wondering, does anyone remember the Ople Kadett CEAD? There was only 100 made(hench the cead), and only in Ireland. They were all the same; black, with orange and gold striping running from the front, over the wheel arches, all the way to the back. I *think* the gold was reflective.

It had a 1.3 engine, and alloys. I'm pretty sure they were all sold between 1981, and 1982. Haven't seen one for about 15 years, but if you were knocking around when these were in existance, you'd remember em. Standard inside , apart from a rev counter and other gauges (this was back in the day when a rev counter was something!!). Does anyone remember em? Or even, does any exist anymore?

My dad had one and it is still knocking around in Charleville.

REG is EIV 201. Its a sky blue Opel Kaddet. He traded up for a Ford Orion.

My dad used to have an orange 1.3S. 647 MZB.

Wasn't a Cead but he always said it was better then the 1.2 or something. Think it's long dead now though

Oh how I remember this car. My cousin had one, and you're dead right there were 100 of them made, black with gold striping. I seem to remember the interior was an orangey brown with orange seat belts. The rev counter was the big thing back then. And boy was it fast (or so we thought) back then - 1.3 ! It was the coolest thing around. Subsequently Opel did other special editions of the Kadett, but I don't think anything was as successful or coveted as the Cead was back then - I'd have thought it was 1981, but could be wrong. Even thinking about it now, puts a smile on my face.

    Podge.

That's a Kadett in the pic, no idea why it says Corsa on the plate.

    TotalOpelPic.jpg

It was similar to the one with the Corsa reg (weren't they sold in oz for a while with that badge?).

There was a Corsa Cead recently enough and an Astra. Think there was an Ascona back in the day too

    Hahaha, nice looking machine.

I was and still am in love with the manta, would still love to get my hands on a decent one.

Very rare machine though these days, I haven't seen one in years. Anyone see any knocking around recently?

Failing that, a monza would do me:cool:

No - I think that might be an 'Ultra' - many of which were sold. The 'Cead' was a strict 100.

The stripes ran around the wheel arches as opposed to in a straight line down the car. Thinking about it now, it probably sounds awful and gaudy but back then it was a babe magnet (or so we thought!)

Does anyone remember the Opel Kadett 'cup'?? They released it to coincide with italia 90, my dad had one :D it was a white kadett with football decals on the doors with cup written underneath, or at least that's how i remember it, and green and orange lines running horizontally along the car, hideous :p so 1990! :D

Yep, sure do. I think they were all made in white, with rgeen and gold stripes. I wasn't a big fan of the shape of those Kadetts though.

The pic EPM posted was something like it alright. Had the same wheels, but that's missing the stripes.

podgee........you're spot on. The interior was an orangey colour, and it was fast to us too. I has an SR version, but it just didn't have that extra little bit on the CEAD flat out. Maybe because the SR had 14" wheels, and the CEAD had 13".

I've looked for pics of one, but can't find any, and I'd reckon they're all but extinct now. Ahhh, for days past........

Why is everyone putting "Cead" in capitals?

Would "Ceád" not be more appropriate?

In fairness to Opel they had a lot of Irish specific models through the years, from the Cups, to the Astra Olympic.

Lol. I suppose it makes no difference. Don't really know why I put it in capitals in the first place.

Wow, nearly 3 grand for that Kadett on carzone. And to think I wrecked a few of em in demolition derbys.

It will be there for a long time at that price. IIRC it was 4k last year. I'd say it's worth 1500 at most, it's the most basic model. A GTE commands a few quid alright

It's amazing what folks ask for poverty spec models, back in the day that yoke wasn't nice or desirable, anyone who would part with 3K for it obviously hasn't tasted the recession :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,214 ✭✭✭JabbaTheHut

Yep, if it was a GTE, that'd be closer to 3 grand. If it's 1980, maybe they're thinking classic road tax for the recession :D . Hmmm, or does it have to be older to qualify for that?

Once they hit 30years old they qualify for cheap tax, Insurance companies do things differently. A lot of dreamers out there when it comes to classics. I wouldn't buy a poverty spec classic myself, just don't see the point.

Sorry for bringing up an old thread but I know a little about this subject :D

First of all the Saab in the background is mine  (original 900 Carlsson) and I took that pic just before Christmas 2009 so it's not that old. This Kadett is in fact an original Kadett Cead (I don't know how to do a fada over the e  ). It still has the original 1.3S in it with a Varajet carb, and has the Orange (or Henna red-ish) interior with the rev counter, or SR clocks! The wheels are original and there are 5 of them. The stripes were removed for a respray about 10-15 years ago. It's owned by a friend of mine and was at the time of the pic, up for grabbs. I was gona take it on cause I know Kadetts very well being an owner of 7 now, and probably have owned about 30 over the years. He didn't want anyone else getting it but I haven't spoke to him since so I don't know what the story is now. I texted him about it a week or so ago but got no reply. But it may have been scrapped!! I would say it is (or was  ) probably the only Cead left.

As for the Kadett pic with Corsa on the Reg, that is a special edition for Germany that came out before the Corsa A went into production. We got a special edition the same as it here but it was called the Kadett Ultra. The German special edition version of the Cead was called the Kadett Black Flash! It had the stripes and wheels but came with Recaro seats and Englemann door mirrors. No fear of us getting that stuff with ours. I have pics of a Kadett Cead (and these other special editions) on my other Laptop but its off getting fixed at the moment. And if I find out more about this pictured Cead I'll post up again.

First Ireland will insure 900's as classic as long as they're Carlssons.

Will do mate. I know someone selling a white 900 Carlsson at the moment. Probably the only white one in Ireland. There's a few red ones and black ones floating around.

I get my insurance through them now for my 900 but it's not classic insurance. I thought it had to be 25 for them to insure a classic?? I usually go direct to AXA for my classic policy. You don't need an engineer's report or NCT and you don't have to be part of a club either that way. First Ireland told me you do need all that stuff for them to insure you. I remember when I bought my Matra Bagheera I tried to insure it with First Ireland and they said NO! So I went direct to AXA and got it.

This is a pic of the Black Flash from a German website though they say it was sold in Switzerland, not in Germany. By the sound of it AutoKadett knows his stuff and has a few photos somewhere so maybe you should pm him/her.

    More info here too.
