I am considering buying a 09 three door Seat Ibiza. However I have been told that when I go to trade it in later the value decreases by roughly €2000 more because its a 3 door.

Are three door cars a bad purchase??
    Any help greatly appreciated!!;)

All of them, you'll have a pain in the bollox lifting the seats each time someone wants to get in the back :P

Thats rubbish in my opinion. I personally would go for a 3 door over a 5 door like for like. I know a lot of people wouldnt but I think they look nicer and wouldnt mind paying even a bit more for a 3 door car. And anyway what you get on a trade in would depend on how old the car is and how much the car your trading against is so theres no way to put a definite amount on how much you would get trading it in.

If you like it then buy it. Buy the car the way you like it and for yourself, not the next set of owners

I doubt you could lose €2,000 just because its 3 door,i rarely have people in the back of my car so have no reason for my next car to be 5 door, and i do think 3 door cars look better eg golf, focus If you personally need more than the 2 front seats than buy a 5 door because as midnight eg said it will drive you mad!

edit:basically repeating most of the above!

i'd imagine its worth about €500 less (same as the diff between 3 and 5dr when new)
Never found any 3dr car all that much more difficult to sell over a 5dr variant. The 3dr will always appeal more to a younger buyer, especially in something like the new Ibiza where its obviously sportier looking than the 5dr. the previous 3dr Astra actually sells for more than the 5dr because of its sporty looks.

As already said, if you prefer the 3dr and don't need the 5dr then get a 3dr and don't worry about the next owners.

Plenty of people out there would be keen on a 3 door car the size of an Ibiza. The current Clio 3 door appears to have a long waiting list under the scrappage scheme which shows that there is demand for these cars.
