Hi l was wondering if anyone would have an idea what this problem would be with my 03 1.2 vw polo.

Basically when lm drving in 2nd or 3rd gear and accelerate the car is jerking some of the time.
it sort of feels like your in the wrong gear pulling away feel.

also when its stoped just idling its grand revs are normal.

its due a service but l dont think that would be the cause?

could it be a petrol pump problem or dirty petrol problem?

could be a number of things. is the engine management light on. i would recommend to clean your throttle body as thet get clogged up easily on the polo.

You could be looking at a number of problems Robbie1977. As you mention yourself. As you mention yourself it could be a fuel pump problem or as simple as poor quality or dirty petrol. Just to note on the fuel pump I think the reason they give up a lot of the time is because the fuel filter underneath the car is not periodically changed. I would much rather change this on a periodic basis than have to shell out for a new fuel pump as they can be quite expensive.

Another high possibility is the ignition coil kit. If I were a betting man I would put money down on that being the problem as these do only last so long in the Polo's. You might be lucky that its something as simple as spark plugs that have well and truly had their day. There are no doubt other possibilities.

Thats certainly another possibility. Is the engine inclined to cut out at times when you clutch and leave of the gas coming up to a junction or traffic lights, particularly if engine is cold?

no it does'nt cut out at all.
its starting fine and even when cold the revs are normal when stoped at lights.
    it only happens when accelerating.

Wouldn't absolutely rule it out but would be inclined to put the carb/ fuel injection unit down the list of possibilities if thats the case Robbie

100% not the fuel pump they work or don't work at all , I'd be pretty sure it's the
air mass meter giving the computer the wrong readings, get it plugged into a diagnostic computer should tell you pretty quick..

    thanks for replys.
would l need to bring it to a main dealer or do smaller garages have those diagnose machines nowadays?

also roughly how much should l expect to pay to get it hooked up to 1 of them.

1 thing tho the engine light isnt on

Main dealer noooooo stay away, you should find a decent garage and most of them have good diagnostic equipment. The light doesn't have to be on to run sh1t and the diagnostic computer should show the fault, air mass meters are notorious for giving trouble hence giving the ecu the wrong air fuel mixture readings. €50 would be a fair price to get it hooked up to a computer

Are you absolutely sure bryaner. I know in a friends Vectra that the car was chugging badly and it definately was the fuel pump. The problem quickly got progressively worse and was rectified when he eventually replaced the fuel pump. Perhaps the fuel pump is different in the Polo in this regard though.

Yup I'm sure changed too many of them than I care to remember.

Many if not the vast majority of small independent garages would have the diagnostic equipment these days so you would not necessarily need to take the car to a main dealer. I would be thinking you should not expect too much change out of 100 Euro generally to get hooked up to one of them alone to diagnose the problem. The joys of motoring:rolleyes:

Coil Pack problem I'd say, it's a common issue with the 1.2 Polo. Even if you do a google search & you'll read all about it and the issues you'll have if it is that.

50-60 for diagnostic in a small repututable garage usually. Other places could be 100-120
