    Hey,

So anyways at about 3 o clock this morning was going to watch 8/10 cats...Too my surprise my PS3 magically turned off...I taught the trip switch had tripped...Anyways the power button was flashing red, turned the PS3 back on...It stays on for roughly 5 mins and then does same thing....Is this the YLOD? How can I get it fixed if so? It is a launch 60gb with a 320gb hard drive in it now...

Would I be fit to sell it if it is broke? As I would need to buy another ps3...Cheers in advance...

    John

no it isn't the same. The YLOD is a YELLOW flashing light...not red...

Unfortunately what your problem sounds like what happened to mine, shutdown then flashes red. and to quote a Sony person "a total system failure of hardware within the device".

Hopefully it's not though.... but it does sound vaguely similar with the shutdown then red light.

Good luck WB, had some good matches with you on MAG

Damn, start backing up all your game saves to a USB key, HDD before it won't power on any more.
Sounds like the failure I had with my launch 60GB, it wasn't a YLOD like yours but it wouldn't even power on for 2 seconds.

Sell a kidney. only need one of those to function. You could also sell part of your liver. It'll grow back eventually

These things are dropping like flies. If you still have your reciept, or a credit card record of the purchase, you could do like some (me included) and try to get a refurbished unit or a replacement, from sony under the "sale of goods act". See http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055795516 there has been a lot of discussion on this.
If not, you might still be able to blag a refurbished unit out of sony for 160euro. They claim these units are completely new inside, and at a push will warranty them for up to12 months.
You may be able to retrieve your game disc from your console, by using the switch on the back of the machine to power off, then holding down the eject button on the front, as you switch the power on again at the back switch. Works in some cases, depending on the fault.
