Is the present moment an obstacle

What percentage of the time do you treat the present moment as merely an obstacle to get to some point in the future? and then when you get there the present moment is still just an obstacle to some other point in the future, and on and on this goes.

When you think about it, the present moment is all there ever is, and if you aren't happy in the present moment most of the time then you are spending most of your life unhappy. Like the dog forever chasing its tail.

I don't, I take each day as it comes.

As Bob Dylan so greatly put it, "let me forget about today until tomorrow"

Serious answer, if you don't like the present make an effort to make your future better.

I used to always do it. It was horrible, and stressful. I'd usually have some event in the future like a holiday that would be the time when I'd be happy, then I get to the airport and stand in que looking forward to getting on the plane... but thats not good either...then I looked forward to landing... but then I wont be happy until the coach brings us to the apartment... but then I won't be happy until I get to the beach...then I wouldn't be happy until I got a drink........and on a on it goes and next thing you know you are on the plane home having wasted your holiday in your head.

Its a really tough moment. When you open it up, and its The Grinch(tm) Pyjama Pants? And your aging mother expects you to wear them?

    Its definitely rough man.

On the other hand, how many people are alive solely out of hope that things will improve for them?

Well if you neglect the obstacles and just live for the present in three days you will be lying in your own feces and really hungry unless, of course, you decide to eat your own feces.
What type of sicko are you OP?!!!!

I do tend to treat most days like they are obstacles but maybe that's cause most of my days are fcuking obstacles.

I just wanna go to the cinema, listen to music, love, watch tv, laugh, eat, watch more tv, drive fast, be loved, go to the beach, have sex, surf the net, drink stuff, sleep and do it all again and but 9 times out of ten I can't do the above because of some fecking obstacle, not enough money, need to work, have to do this that or the other fecking thing.

So, in summary - life is a fcuking obstacle.

'Twould be great to have the ability to sleep through entire days on autopilot and only have to be concious when there's something good to do.

I'm always living in the present. I'm living...now...no, now. No, now!

Now, now, now, now, now, now, now!

Ok so you get your drink, that you forgot to get on the way to the beach, now all you have to do is lie there relaxing on a sun drenched paradise beach for hours on end. Can't you be happy for hours on end. Couldn't you even lie there and be happy for just ten fcking minutes?

I like the obstacles in life, they make things even sweeter when you overcome them. It might feel crap at the time but that is what makes you appreciate things.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,228 ✭✭✭epgc3fyqirnbsx

    Sure this is it

Your situation is often a means to an end.
The trick is to enjoy that end for a while when you get there
