RTE Television - Only employing Dubs

What does everyone think of this?

It seems nearly everyone on RTE TV is from Dublin? Does RTE have a bias? Is it all about who you know in Dublin?

Examples are RTE News, 2TV - All dubs. The cafe, Afternoon Show ,Late Late, Prime Time - the list goes on.

This really is a very evident practice. Is it purely coincidental?

Yes it's 100% a co-incidence that RTE who's HQ is in Donnybrook, Dublin 4 hires mostly south side Dubliners.

    Re Cork and Galway

Very very very few programmes from those studios. I am referring to people who are actually on the screen.

It is pretty narrow minded of an organisation. Pretty disgraceful really if it is as you say

the people you see are tiny compaired to the people working on each show... theres 1000s of staff from around the country as camera ops sound directors..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,082 ✭✭✭✭Spiritoftheseventies

Then you have Marty Morrisey, Michael Lyster, Bill O'Herlihy. All non dubs

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭Hank_Jones

Neil Delamere, Hector, Colin Murphy, Brendan O'Connor, Katherine Lynch

I would think it's to do with numbers, most people are from Dublin, therefore most of the people on RTE are going to be from...Dublin.

Evan Ní Chullain (sp?) is from Kilkenny. I believe George Hamilton is from Belfast, Pat Spillane from Kerry

    Correct.
Also the numbers that are on screen 'Dubs' are by no means talented people from average Dublin neighbourhoods. As a matter of fact, usually D4, unsually untalented. The gene pool of nepotism is just that, a pool.

OP ..... did you apply for a job in RTE and get turned down in preference for someone who lives in Dublin.

Not at all man, no interest in working in media. I have just noticed it with the new young people they have hired. All seem to be from Dublin.

So basically, the tall people like Ryan Tubridy are bullying the small on-screen people ? :D

Idiotic thread, unless the OP backs up with examples (and btw, as Dublin has a third of the countries population, I'd expect 1 in 3 at least to be from Dublin) but let's hear it anyway..

If they're not from Dublin then, in many cases, they have a family member already in the organisation.

Nepotism is allegedly rife judging by other threads.

I don't think its fair to say RTE are only employing Dubs, its not too long ago i remember the controversy over RTE only employing Northerners. At least unlike TV3 they don't employ Robots, I've never seen such appalling TV from its news coverage to that Nasty Cosmetic surgery show.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

Your taking the piss arent you? Most people in this country are not from Dublin the ratio i'm afraid would fall the other way!

In other words the most talented typically come from Dublin

If I've learned anything from this thread is that Dubliners are obviously much better at everything than dem weird country folk.

I obviously needed a nonsensical post to fit into a nonsensical thread

Considering HALF the population of the country live in dublin/greater dublin and the HQ studios are based in south dublin, its not surprising that the people working there are mainly from dublin...

theyre all morons anyway TBH and RTE is all about WHO you know....

the population of dublin (1.2 million at last census) is approx 30% of the population of the state (4.2 million at last census)

That information is incorrect.. the population is greater dublin is closer to 1.7 million, I said 50% of ireland live in Dublin but in reality its closer to 40%... and rising and people leave rural ireland...

At the 2006 Irish census, the population of the GDA was 1,662,536.[1] This equates to 39.2% of Ireland's population.

1 - this thread is about dublin, not the greater dublin area
2 - i doubt if people in oldcastle or tinahely look at ryan tubridy and think "oh look, it's one of us, thank god we're represented on the telly"
