I'm going to Bangkok this summer and would like to fly with a good airline as it is a long enough fight. I’m a tall guy so space is important. Anyone have any experiences?

I flew to Beijing with Emirates from Heathrow via Dubai. They have the new A380 plane on a lot of their routes and even in economy it's luxury compared to most other airlines. Their Boeing 777's are very cramped though. But if you can get the A380 on all your flights, it's going to be worth every penny as far as sleeping is concerned.

Edit: try http://www.seatguru.com/ to find out if seats with certain airlines and aircraft are good or bad.

I flew Thai from LHR to BKK. Very happy with both the comfort and service.

Lufthansa, Swiss Airlines, SAS Scandinavian and Turkish Airlines all fly to Dublin and Bangkok so you'd only need to change once. SAS Scandinavian have an economy plus option that offers more legroom.

Don't go with Air China. It's average, and the other options posted here sound a lot better

Try Etihad dublin to dubai then on to bangkok , just checked it out to fly on the 5th june say only 460 euro and only one stop in dubai, flights daily from dublin and they look after you very well

I agree with Purcela. I flew to Bangkok in January with China Airlines and they were average. It was a 747 with no tv's in headrests. However, they were the cheapest by almost 150 euro at that time.

For leg space, I think it will be hard to beat Thai airways from Heathrow.

I've flown long haul on over a dozen airlines to various places and the time I flew Thai from Bangkok was by far the best

    +1 for avoiding China Airlines

The money you might save is not worth the hassle. The planes are old and worn, the staff ditsy and the food inedible (well, more inedible than usual!)

Tip: if you have to suffer through a China Airlines flight and you aren't fond of Asian food (fish usually) then book a muslim or veggie meal. It seems like they only stock about 4 western meals on each flight!!!
