Buying DVD player

    I'm looking to get a dvd player.

    Would be nice if it could play most formats like xvid etc and also have a connection for playing songs, video from a harddrive or portable storage device.

    I know you can get this for a modest price but what if you want to go for a dvd recorder? What should one look for, you can get some that series link with sky as well? Bigger hd the better?


    OT - If any of you were buying a TV 50+ would it be plasma/lcd or led?
