Mould on AluClad Sash Windows

    Hiya,
I have M....n aluclad sash windows with a factory lacquered finish internally. The windows were installed in winter 07 and we moved in winter 08. Over the last couple of months mould has appeared on all but about 6 of them due to excessive condensation. We have built an ICF house with a sealed fireplace but have not completed the attic insulation and both front and back doors are not fully sealed. The house is approx 3k sq ft and we have not plumbed the bathrooms upstairs and we use a bedroom downstairs. The company is now trying to blame us for the problem. Any advice or similar stories would be of great help as this was the biggest single investment made on the house and it is just breaking my heart to think that I am going to have to put with mouldy windows let alone the health implications for us living in the house.

Forgot to say that our house is on a very elevated site so it get fairly battered by the weather but we are not near the seaside.

the company can only be held liable for the stability and design standard of the product.

If it can be shown that the mould growth is due to excessive condensation as a result of the defect of the product, then you may have an argument.

If it can be shown however, that the mould growth is due to excessive condensation as a result of the defects in the building, then you dont have an argument.

as this is verging on a legal argument it will be locked. However, posters can feel free to PM the op.

Lack of ventilation is the prime suspect here . ICF builds tend to achieve a good level of air tightness , which in and of itself , is a good thing . But you may have "over achieved" with air tightness to the extent that you need a HRV installation

HRV ( Heat Recovery Ventilation ) is commonly understood as whole house - i.e. one large fan unit with ductwork running to and from it around the house . But you can get stand alone units which fit into "the hole in wall" . They cost about €700-800 each . They may be what you need .
