    Well whos going to win?
I have to say I think Waterford have a fair chance especially since the Portumna lads wont be there, but then I'm completely biased..

    Predictions?

Well based on the results at the weekend, you'd have to lean towards Waterford, but I was expecting Galway to have a good league, but they werent good yesterday apparently.

Waterford good yesterday but let Dublin in for a lot of goal chances. Watch out for Joe Gantley. Good player.

Ye should beat us comfortably enough; the Galway machine is still pretty experimental; different types of oil being used if ya get me. Joe is hurling well to be fair to him but our forwards need to be on the scoresheet; all of them and he wasn't last weekend.

waterford are doing a fair amount of experimentation themselves, i'd expect home advantage, not to mention the desire for a little revenge for last july, to help galway to a 4 or 5 point victory

galway by a couple of points. Waterford are weak up front, Dublin were very poor and home advantage for the Tribesmen the keys.

I don't think so, our lads haven't quite gelled yet - Limerick in all their turmoil were only beaten by us in the last 15 minutes.

Galway still experimenting a bit with the lineup, the unavailability of the Portumna lads gives McIntyre a good chance to see what a few of the fringe players can do. And needless to say the Portumna players should make a big difference when they come back. Should be a decent game and I'd expect there won't be much in it. There's not alot between these two teams on any day.

Sorry for OT but not impressed with your sig at all girl. Could ya not have thrown John Mullane up on it instead of canning. The Mullanimal is a right handsome fella too!

    :P
Well I didnt make the sig, as I have said but.......... I just dont see any chance of me changing it from Joe, especially to Mullane :pac:

Back on the match I think it will be a close game, but I think one team will win it by a few points in the last few minutes. I think Waterford might be able to do it, but I dont like whats happening with our full forward line, especailly as it will most likely be Hurney in there. And a Hurney who's being outnumberd is just a laugh of a line...
I also really hope Murray does not start the match, and it wouldnt be a bad thing if he didnt go to Galway :)

Deise girl there is something very disturbing about seeing Joe Canning and Jedward together.

I know how great, fantastic and ermm controversial(sp) my sig is, I had this discussion with Brummy when it was made :pac:
But this is my first thread (I think) and I dont want it closed so can we try stay on topic please! :P
    Cheers, people!

I think Waterford will be naming their team tonight after training, we'll see if theres any changes made. Also I think Eoin Mcgrath will be available for this match, his 4weeks will be up.

Presume our XV will be quite similar to the Dublin match, but I'd still like to see a few changes. Hopefully something like...

    Power
    Maher---Lawlor---N.Connors
    Prender---Brick---Kearney
    O'Neill---Foley
    Shan----Moran---Molumphy
    Walsh---Hurney---McGrath

Power, Kearney, O'Neill and Eoin McGrath in for Clinton, Murray, Nagle and T.Connors.

What Hurling clubs are in Galway City? and is there any hurling done in West Galway & Tuam / North Galway at all?

Disappointing to see such little change tbh, but I suppose there's still lots of games ahead in the league for players to impress.

I dont know. I dont think it is a good thing to make too many changes to a winning team. There is other games where players can be tried out. The Limerick game maybe if things stay the way there are.

Liam Mellows (club of John Lee, David Collins and Aonghus Callanan) and Castlegar (club of Ger Farragher) are the only senior clubs in Galway city but there are a number of lower levels clubs like Rahoon/Newcastle, etc.

In general in Galway if you draw a line between Galway city and Ballinasloe everything below that line is hurling while everything above it is football. There is the odd exception though.

Didn't even notice the Galway team was out. Some occasion for David Collins. Been over two years out injured and makes his first start since.
David Collins will start Galway's Division One NHL match against Waterford on Sunday.

The former Tribesmen captain made a late substitute's appearance in the win over Limerick last weekend, but hasn't started an intercounty game in over two years.

During that time, he was sidelined with a severe ankle injury that threatened to end his career.

In total, John McIntyre makes five changes from last weekend.

Collins comes in at wing back in place of Kevin Hynes while Iarlath Tannion starts at corner forward ahead of Portumna's Niall Hayes (who's preparing for the All-Ireland club final).

Colm Callanan again replaces James Skehill in goal and Fergal Moore replaces Pat Holland at corner back, while Niall Healy comes in for David Burke at top of the left.

    Galway (NHL v Waterford): C Callanan; D Joyce, S Kavanagh, F Moore; D Barry, T Og Regan, D Collins; G Farragher, N Cahalan; A Callanan, C Donnellan, A Harte; I Tannian, J Gantley, N Healy.

Galway by 2-3 to 0-5.. waterford seem lethargic. nearly half time now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

Thats probably the worst attempt at defending I've ever seen from an inter-county full back. Hilarious.

Feck, cant get the tg4 player to work:(

Since my lethargic remark Waterford have woken up and scored 1-3. Its nicely poised now for the second half.

    HT Galway 2-3 Waterford 1-8

Galway. He waved the hurley aimlessly one handed in the air and missed the ball by about ten yards.

Just back from it now. Great rally coming outta the second half by Galway.- Will be interested to see that goal that just slipped by the Waterford goalkeeper.

Yeah bad error alright but he actually had a fine game apart from that one slip. At full-back though one mistake can mean a goal conceded.

Hi all I hate to say this but OMG that was really bad , I've never commented on Waterford before when they lost as I was always proud to watch them play and knew their heart and soul went into every game, but today it seemed they couldn't do the basic things like rising the ball, catching the ball, and passing the ball . I won't comment on the keeper . I know Davy Fitz has to try new players and fully understand that. But I thing he should have replaced players today 10 mins into the second half.

Game was over with 10 minutes to go. Experience is pretty important when it the Championship comes.

Keeper was directly in front of the sun and he was blinded. Felt bad for him.

Thats why I did not comment on the keeper, But can't help feeling If Clinton was between the sticks at least two of the Goals would have been saved, As for the Championship thats another story, but I do feel that the game today was a let down . New players need experiance but not at the price of pride, We were hammered today and we could have won, NOW I HAVE TO LISTEN TO MY BROTHER IN LAW:eek::mad:) The git is from Galway.I think we should be out to win every game and new / inexperianced players should be tested against lesser teams then Galway . We have sod all silverware as it is a National throphy would look nice in the cabinet.

Just remind your brother in law that Galway beat Waterford last year in the league too and look where that got them come the summer....

As for the match today, we really let it go after half time, Galway just upped the pace a bit and we couldnt handle it, it was a pity considering we'd gotten a brilliant fight back going as well. We seemed to go back to the old trick of crazy shooting from all over the park nd it just didnt work, too many wides. The goals were killers and Power is gonna take a bit of a knock after this. I hope Davy doesnt just leave him out altogether now though, as it would be a big dent to his confidence.

I agree with whoever said earlier about us not having a scoring threat, the half forward line in particular was poor for this today.

All in all a day to forget for Waterford but congratulations to Galway. With two wins under the belt and the Portumna lads still to come back they are placing themselves well for a decent shot at a league final position

Adrian Power is the best young goalkeeper in the country. He's sensational and will keep goal for Waterford for the next decade, I guarantee that. Young players, in particular goalkeepers will make mistakes, but someone of his talent is well worth the trouble.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,950 ✭✭✭deisedude

Power will bounce back. Only his second start in a meaningful game. He has plenty of ability and is a tremendous shot stopper. Every keeper leaves in a howler now and again. Hopefully he will learn from it and redeem himself if he gets another chance.
