This movie kinda came out of the left field....I only saw a trailer for it last week and it came out this week.
Trailer had me and a mate enticed as a mindless action flick but turned out to be alot more than that I felt. Nothing amazing...but a little bit above your average popcorn flick.

We went to see it having never read anything about the original Solomon Kane so I can't say how it compares.
The movie itself was very entertaining and I thought the story was well put together, well told and well paced.

I can't say anything outstanding about the performances but the visuals and the action were quite good.
It did carry a tone of the LOTR throughout but thankfully didn't carry any of the boredom I would associate with them.

Have to say that I quite enjoyed it. It is pretty faithful to the spirit of the character in the written form, and I think Purefoy did well in the title role. Finally getting to spin about with a cape and blades after his V For Vendetta non experience. (Although some of the scenes in V For Vendetta are actually Purefoy with Weaving's voice put in place of that of Purefoy)

Have to say that the background and landscapes in SK did bring the Hammer films of old to mind albeit with the benefit of modern technology to augment the look.

Plus I never object to seeing Max von Sydow on the big screen.

Would love to know which ones.

I liked Solomon Kane. I'd been looking forward to this for a while since I heard it was being made. It was good entertaining fun, above average. And fairly true to the tone of the books even though it's a totally new story. Good performances all around, and they didn't shy away from lots of violence, even the type that is usually avoided, eg:
    children getting murdered.

    Enjoyable auld movie.

Had the same look and feel of the first Conan the Barbarian movie, with the raiders and whatnot and even had Max Von Sydow playing the same sort of character.

    Cool show.

wouldn't think it's in cinemas anymore?? I saw it in the cinema months ago, should be on DVD soon. Worth watching, good movie, lots of fun....reminded me of the likes of Highlander or Conan
