changed to upc for a few months. Went back to sky and still had the recordings, they are saved onto a hard drive go as other chap said. You can keep em as long as you want.

no, not the recordings i already have, the ones i am going to record on series link etc, eg i'm moving on monday but have a planned rec on wed, if the box is powered off for any length of time are these forgotton and must be replanned?

You can power off the box for a few hours or days without any loss of planned programmes. So if you move on Monday and have everything set up in the new house on Wednesday, once the box is connected to a dish and plugged in it'll record away.
