I was made redundant towards the end of last year, I spent a few weeks abroad looking for work and didn't sign on over that space of time, i found work sooner than i expected and was only un employed for a month.
I read here that I can't backclaim dole payments for this period, is this true?

Not if you were out of the country as you weren't available for work here while you were abroad.

If you claimed and signed on before going abroad, there may be some amount available to you to cover up and until you failed to continue to sign on.

No. You need to commence claiming on the first day you are unemployed and no payment is made to cover first three days of claim.
