Just had my best shave last night. I already had a merkeur vision and progress but decided I had to try a merkeur slant bar armed with a feather blade. Definetely the best shave I have ever had. Just for information I used a Taylor's lemon and lime shaving cream applied with a badger brush and a final splash of woods of windsor which I bought in TK Max on Saturday.

Am I right in thinking that these slant razors give a sharper cut at an angle because the razor hear is slanted? If so, how do you use it on the side of your face where you are using your wrong hand?

I don't use a slant myself and am certainly no expert but I've never felt the need to switch hands while shaving. I reckon I would cut myself to pieces if I tried to use my left hand.

Personally I am right handed so I always hold the razor in my right hand. My method of holding and it is totally personal, is that I balance the base of the razor on top of my small finger and I hold the stem between my thumb and remaining three fingers. You shave with in the normal fashion but it seems to lift and cut the hairs at the same time giving a much smoother finish.

I very rarely cut myself and if I did it was usually through bad preparation and rushing. Last night I used the Tayors avacado shaving cream and it has to be my number one for lather and smoothness.

I use the razor in either hand. No harm in getting used to using a DE razor with either hand, it'll help if you ever switch over to straight razors.

That's what I thought. I know that when you use a straight razor, it is recommended that you change hands at least when you are starting the shave on your "wrong" side because if you use your usual hand you can't see where the blade is going.

Is a slant razor symmetrical; i.e. does it cut at the same angle even if you use the same hand on both sides of your face?
