Anyone know the status of the N3 from Blanch to Dunsaughlin - can you still cycle on it?

Was only out as far as the Trim road yesterday but it seemed fine, went all the way as far as Trim and that is a smaller road. The old N3 is closed now around Bracetown, I took the new motorway instead. It is not a motorway yet as far as I can make out according to the signage (the "M3" and motorway logo are painted over) so you are fine to cycle on it. This rejoins the old N3 just a bit before the Trim road turn-off.

There's no problem cycling that yet. It'll be a while before it's classified a motorway.

Well this is the thing, it was reclassified last August but northbound the motorway signs are painted over. Southbound they are present, so I don't cycle on that bit but go along the parallel road and back on a bit later. Works for me as I am generally in the hurry going north not so much going south. :pac:

That's unbelievable, that stretch, if it's the one i think is still under construction.

I know after Littlepace, on the way to Navan, there's still loads of work to be done.

I thought a road couldn't be reclassified until all work was completed.

I suppose you learn something new everyday.

Press release and maps. The actual N3 through Bracetown is closed and there are diversion signs that indicate that the newly constructed motorway is the "N3" for the time being. They only have a couple of lanes open and a speed limit of 60km/h.

The bit I was referring to though is the end of the N3 dual carriageway that has been there for many years. Motorway signs went up at the Clonee off-ramp if you want to continue along the N3 but they are painted over. Heading back in the other direction there is a non-painted over "M3" sign at Clonee so I take that exit and go along the entirely parallel road before dropping back down onto the N3. It is around a kilometer at most.

    All very confusing.
