    Hey,
I have an ipod classic 120gb that just froze up on me today... It was working fine last night and today when I went to change the artist it wouldn't play. I reset the ipod and instead of rebooting a red 'X' came up and the link for ipod support on apple.com... I've run all the checks there except the last one which is to restore the ipod which will completely erase all my songs. (which i can't do as i just moved to Oz and all my songs are at home) Neither can i back up the songs as my iPod isn't recognised by iTunes or as an external hard-drive..
It's only 6 months old... if i send it back to apple will all my songs will be erased ?

Anybody experience anything like this before?
    All help appreciated!

the only way to fix it is by reinstalling the ipod's software. any method that comes to my mind involves loosing all the music.

Ok, I have accepted the fact that i'm going to lose everything... But how do i re-install the software if my comp won't recognise the iPod. I have tried iTunes ( i have the latest version) and i also have the "enable disk use" function checked on my ipod though the comp still won't recognise it as a drive.
Any tips? Do i have to get it sent to apple? Don't think i have the receipt... sh!t.

I'm living in Oz at the moment.. I rang apple today, explained the problem and they're sending me out a new one. I will just have to start my collection again i suppose. Thanks for the response!

Bump. Exact same problem but I bought mine much longer ago so the warranty will be gone. Is there anyway to fix this?

The problem is I can't restore it. I have everything on the Ipod on the computer. I just want to know a way to fix it but I don't care if it gets rid of everything on it
