What referneces to use

I am currently applying for jobs in the legal sector and am wondering what references to use

All of my work experience so far has been in the retail and hospitality sectors. I have good references from area managers and such but would like something that is more solid towards the sector I am aiming for

I was wondering if it would be wise to include as a reference a professional person who I haven't actually worked for but who knows me and would vouch for me on a personal level

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Personally I would just put "references available upon request" on my CV, and then when interviewed if they ask for references you can give them the option of an ex-employer or the professional person or whatever.
