The BAFTAs have previous though. If there is a half decent British performance or film then it will win at the BAFTAs. I remember Jamie Bell winning years ago for Billy Elliot. Not that he wasn't good, but not good enough to win an award like that. I'd predicted a Firth/Mulligan win this evening, should have put some money on it grr.

It will be more interesting on Oscar night.

Yea personally i think the hurt locker deserved it , imo i have always believed Avatar was a case of the "emperors new clothes" (ie overated and talked up by critics /people who were trying to be cool/ hip)
Its an old story ,transferred to space with video game graphics.

Some nice graphics but not a great film.Yea 3d looked well, but so does most 3d nowdays.

Having said that it will probably get a few oscars, but hope it does'nt get best film,it does'nt deserve it.

    Well done "The Hurt Locker"

I still cant get my head around all the praise and awards The Hurt Locker is picking up, i don't think its garbage but i just really dont think its that good, i think the standard is pretty low this year.

I've always thought the Hurt Locker was totally overrated, but it deserved the awards over Avatar for sure.

The results seemed to me, to recognise a genuinely good list of quality films. They were far better than the embarrasing, self congratulatory circle jerk that was the IFTA's. Jaysus, the Best Picture nominees were a list of as yet unreleased or un-releasable and embarrasing cack.

    IFTA Best Film Noms:

Eamon - An alleged comedy that's about as funny as colo-rectal cancer.
Zonad - Makes Eamon look like a masterpiece of subtlty.
The Secret of Kells - Visually intresting for terminally stoned, but patchy and a second rate attempt at Miyazaki type fare.
    Ondine - Twee
The Eclipse - Really? I mean I love Ciaran Hinds, but weak maudlin ghost stories could test that love...

    Really embarrasing stuff :(

Did Vanessa Redgrave mentioned Natasha at all in her speech?

Im suprised the media have not played on the ex marriage of Bigalow and Cameron during the awards season with both their movies up against each other for the big awards. A battle of the ex's if you will.

I've seen it mentioned a few times in the media but not too much.

I did notice the BBC cameramen zooming in to Cameron whenever Bigelow and The Hurt Locker won an award. Whatever emotions he was feeling, he hid them fairly well.
