    When did they stop ?

    I always thought it was 1984 but Wikipedia says 1982 and This page wariously states 1982 and 1983 (unless it was late 1982 with a caption message remaining into early 1983 ????) :confused:

    And why didnt they switchover in 1978 given that new dual standard sets had by then all but disappeared from the shops and people must have been upset about having to pay a licence fee for two channels when they could only get one (in black and white to boot) ?
