NCT...High Emission...HELP!

Hey ppl. Im having a problem here. I brought my car (2000 yaris) for NCT test last week. And it's failed on emissions. The results are as follows:
    Temp 82 C
    Low idle
    CO 1.20% above 0.50% fail
    High idle
    lambda 0.99 pass
    CO 0.56% above 0.30% fail
I was told by mechanic that I need to bring my car for a good spin, since I don't drive it often (once a week for an hour during last 4 month, done only 50 miles for given period of time), there has been some built ups and that's why it gives high emissions. Was adviced to pour some BARDAHL NO-SMOKE stuff into oil and the car will pass. Would it really help to give it a spin and add some of that stuff? Could it be the reason for failing NCT that the har hasn't been driven daily?
Thanks in advance. As you understand I know nothing about cars and my English is not the best so please, no "smart" phrases:)

Thanks but there's no answer to my question and I don't want to cross-post there. So, if any one knows, will that Bardahl stuff work combined with a hot engine?

follow ur mechanics advice, get some of that additive stuff and (more importantly) bring it for a nice long spin, drive it quite hard too for a bit :)

Put DIPTANE in the fuel tank, it can be bought in most Motor Factors.
Drive your car on higher revs for a while,(Not top gears) it gets rids of the cobwebs.

If you haven't lately, change spark plugs and air filter. This needs to be done anyway and if you use cheap ones then before every NCT is a way to remember.

You can easily do it yourself. Unscrew them and compare to this picture.

You can put gallons of Dipetane in the tank, and put in dozens of new plugs in, looking at the test results, I'd say its a more serious problem. Low idle CO 1.20% is pretty high, has your mechanic an emissions tester? If he doesn't have one, walk away.
Go to a garage, that has the necessary equipment, to diagnose the problem properly, and can check your emissions before you bring the car back for a Re-test.

That's good advice. OP doesn't want to fail again and pay the full fee (€50) for a new test.
