Differences between Theory Test Editions

I've been practicing with a Second Edition Official Driver Theory Test CD Rom.
    I haven't applied for a test yet,
my plan is to apply once i can consistently pass tests on this CD,
then borrow my friends DTT book (which is brand new)
and study that for two weeks.

I was given this DTT CD brand new as a gift for Christmas,
which could mean these Second Edition CDs are still retailing.
Whats the difference between the editions?
Is it just a cash-in? Even if it isn't,
how good would practice on a Second Edition CD
and reading the latest edition book be??

You're saying you keep trying to pass on the CD, which leads me to think you may only be doing mock tests?

If I'm right, next time you turn it on, go to start a test, then select the practice for the test part (on the left hand side, rather than the right), it lists all of the different types of questions into categories such as documentation, road signs, markings etc. IMO going through it this way was of much more benefit, and tbh I only went over it the night before my test and flew through it the next day.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Mightnight EG, when did you do your test and what edition CD did you use to practice?

Tbh yeah, I was actually failing the mock tests, the questions were almost never random and some of them were quite ridiculous!

It's an easy test, just make sure you read over exactly what you're answering, and make sure the answers are correct! Some of the pick 3 out of 4 answer ones are so annoying and offer little difference to the one wrong answer!

With my test, the practise tests were ok, but the actual theory test in the centre had the mad random questions on it.

With regards to using the disc I found in order to get better coverage over all the questions stop and restart the programme it appeared to me that if you started doing the mock tests it was like the computer only took a bank of 100 questions and picked 40 from it, then the next mock could have 30 of the same questions and 10 dif, then the next could have the same 40 as the first to avoid that I always went and restarted it over to generate a completely different 40.

I found the book easier to use tho tbh and quicker

Gerard, I agree with Donegalfella. Definitely use the fourth edition. There have been a number of changes as he said and the last thing you want to do is fail after so much studying. Read through the book again & again until you understand each question and then move on to the cd. The cd is really helpful as the questions and the format they're in are exactly the same as in the test. Good luck:)
