Dress code?

    Hi everyone,

I have an assessment day coming up with a multinational company with headquarters in the UK.

"Dress appropriately. We're not your average corporate and we pride ourselves in doing things differently so the dress code is 'work smart'."
Now if I were to read the "work smart" bit without reading the rest I would've thought that a regular suit would be fine (a pretty smart grey one from Oasis) but the "not your average corporate" and "doing things differently" would kind of suggest that they would like to see something a little different that would stand out from the crowd??
    I'd really appreciate people's views and/or suggestions!
    Thanks!

Go in a suit, but if needs be, take the tie off

I'd interpret this as "it's ok to not wear a suit".
Get a smart, businesslike dress or a smart shirt and trousers and office-appropriate shoes.

I personally am probably not going to wear a suit to an interview again; I feel really uncomfortable wearing suits (i'm a girl btw)!

    Thanks for the replies everyone!

Its the Vodafone UK Graduate Programme (http://discoveruk.vodafone.co.uk/discover/)

Sorry I would've said it from the start but I wasn't full sure if you were allowed say company names on the boards or not.

I applied, did aptitude tests, a telephone interview and now have been invited to attend one of their "Experience Days" in at Vodafone HQ in Newbury.
Apparently, they're taking on 50 grads this year and are bringing 150 to the Experience Days so I want to give a good shot at it seeing as those odds aren't too bad!!

Also if any one has any experience or info about working for Vodafone that would be great too!

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Lived in Newbury for a couple years - not with Vodaphone though. Was with another company. Love the place however....

The girls in vodaphone, were dressed smartly but chic.... Maybe coloured heels with a plain pinafore dress or black trouser with a silky blouse and heels. For example:

Not quite what I'm looking for - but think classic with a modern twist. Your Oasis suit could be perfect with a nice blouse and heels....

Girls in Newbury in general are well groomed (think styled hair, subtle but there make up).

    Good luck.

I have a friend who works for Vodafone and he wears jeans, shirts and shoes.

They actually rang me today to confirm attendance and I asked about it...she said you could wear as casual as dark jeans and a top or something but that suit or similar workish attire is grand too.

think il stay abit formal tho!
    thanks for the help!

Yep, better safe than sorry! Worst case scenario it'll make you look like you're taking the job interview really seriously.
