Pre-NCT Test

    Evening all,

Any recommendations for getting a pre-NCT test done in or around the Blackrock, Co. Dublin area?

On a separate note, is it generally better to get a service or pre-NCT carried out at a dealership (i.e. I drive a Citroën, should I go to a Citroën garage)?

    Cheers,

    D

Pre-NCT tests are a waste of money, don't bother. There's plenty of threads about this here on a regular basis, search if you want more info.

Seriously, don't bother, it makes sense to just put the car in, see what fails and then just get that fixed.

Only do a pre-NCT test if it's free.
Tell them you'll be doing repairs somewhere else/ by yourself.
This should minimise chances of them adding extras on.

Advance told me months ago I needed new tyres (did a free pre-NCT for the craic). NCTd the yoke last week and they didn't mention the tyres at all...

The only opinion on your car that matters is that of the NCT tester. Put it through, they will tell you what to fix. All it will cost you is 27 or 28 euro re-test fee. If the pre-test guy will not guarantee you a pass, or if he fits any part to the car that is not required, then it has cost you more than the 28 euro.

I would check out the things you can do yourself - make sure all lights working, plug in the seatbelts all round (esp the rear seat), remove the wheel trims if applicable.

Also make sure you tackle the fail items list immediately and don't leave it to the last minute. If for any reason you don't re-test in 28 days then it's a new test, with the possibility of new fail items not on first list.

I agree to a point. I have however seen many cars that have just passed there nct with serious defects over looked. If you do need to have repairs carried out it would be no harm to have your garage check over the car then to see have the nct missed any thing that may bite you in the ass later.
