    Hi

In the providers listed in the forum sticky there seems to be a serious lack of decent providers...with the exception of blueface why does every other website have the feel of a cheap fraud site?

    Not many providers in Ireland..

    Another List

I use blueface and think there the best. Suppose UPC are another as well but it depends on what your usage is going to be for.

Im going to be using chorus ntl 15mb soon-when my current contract with perlico ends :( I was talking to a guy from chorus customer support and while my house cant get their voip yet he said that sometime in the near future they will expanding their network in my area-whatever that means. That said does the default equipment that chorus give out allow for use with blueface-im not talking about that cisco all in one crap but say a scientific Atlantic modem with a wireless netgear g wr614?

If your house can't get VOIP then it can't get broadband. VOIP is Voice Over Internet Protocol. If you have an internet connection in excess of 85 kbps up and down with little or no packet less and minimal jitter then you can make a VOIP call with better quality than your average Eircom line. if you have more bandwidth and QOS on your router then you can make multiple calls and browse/download simultaneously.

Basically my house can get chorus ntl 15mb broadband but not their voip service. With only the chorus ntl broadband as a stand alone product can i then get a blueface account running as voip-or do i have to wait for chorus ntl to upgrade their network before i can get chorus ntl voip?

YES, I have UPC broadband and was told the same, phone package not available, so use blueface and have never had a problem with it. In fact working out cheaper for me as well.

What blueface package are you on? what hardware/software are you using?

Am just using the pay as you go package myself as am not a very heavy user, no software used. And use my mobile for connection. My Nokia N95 has a sip client built in, so whenever my mobile is within range of the router it automatically connects and acts as both my mobile and my VOIP line. Allows you to make and receive calls from either VOIP or mobile, so it's real handy, just the one phone :)

I was thinking of getting the ireland and uk unlimited 15e a month package along with one of their ip based hardware phones-speaking of which is really expensive-im told that the ip phones from the blueface shop are reconfigured to just work but is that just a big rip off or are ip phones difficult to set up?

    Whats a sip client?

A mobile phone with a sip client allows you to connect to a VOIP service over a wireless router, so you don't need an ip phone. Most ip phones are a rip of with the price of them and a lot of them aren't great quality.
Blueface have an offer at the moment for their ip phone and free local and national calls for the life of the phone for €199. If you don't make may calls to UK that might be an option.
