Welcome to the Banking & Insurance & Pensions Forum.

The Moderators of this forum are @HenryFordIII, @Jim2007 and @Toots

This board is for people who want to know more about Banking, Insurance and Pensions services/products/providers. Any threads posted here should relate to these topics.

Asking for peoples opinions on particular products is fine, however posts on this board do not constitute financial advice, they are just opinion. This is true regardless of who is posting, even in situations where the person in real life might actually be able to give financial advice due to their job. If you need help, consult a independent financial advisor.

Other forums may be more appropriate, depending on the topic you wish to discuss. These are:
    • Economics - for discussion on economic events and current economic affairs, economic theory, academic economic courses.
    • Accountancy - for discussion, queries and advice on accounting.
    • Entrepreneurial & Business Management - for discussion on matters relating to entrepreneurship, business and management.
    • Investments & Markets - for the discussion of all things pertaining to investing and markets, both global and local.
    • State Benefits - for advice on benefits available from the Irish Government with in the ROI.
    • Work & Jobs - for discussion and advice on work related matters, job applications etc.
    • Motors - for discussions on all things Motoring related. If you have a query on Motor Insurance, we recommend you post it there.
    • Bank of Ireland - talk to Official Bank of Ireland Reps about BOI products and services.
If you are unsure of where to post your query/thread, you can use the 'Private Message' (PM) function to check with a Moderator before posting. Moderators sometimes move threads from one forum to another, if they feel that the thread is better suited there.

    Rules & Guidelines:

    Read the Boards.ie Guidelines.
These are the rules that apply to the entire site. They are in addition to the rules for each individual forum. We recommend that all users familiarise themselves with these guidelines. They also have some handy info about the site in general.

    Use the Search function.
Some topics have been covered several times over, so it's a good idea to do a search on the topic before you post, in case your question has already been answered.

    Reporting/Flagging a Post
If you see a post that breaches the rules of the forum, please report it by clicking the "Flag" Button and a Moderator will take a look at it.

    Don't Solicit Business.
This is a bannable offence. Trying to solicit business or get free advertising on this board will result in you being banned from this board permenantly. Multiple accounts from the same person doing this may result in the admins banning your IP from this site. You don't want that.

    No Commercial Entities.
People may post to this board as private entities. If you want to advertise then contact hello@boards.ie to discuss it further. Any accounts created for the sole purpose of advertising a company or entity will be banned from this board permanently. Posting here as a professional in the industry (past or present) is fine.

    No Advertising of Commercial Entities.
That's pretty self explanatory - but to be sure, you cannot use this forum to advertise products and services. If you wish to advertise, contact hello@boards.ie. NB: Weblinks to articles, information sites and free sites are fine. It is only blatant advertising of commercial entities that we will be removing.

    Don't Post Off-Topic.
Posting threads on here that have nothing to do with this board will result in them being moved or deleted. Continual off-topic threads may lead to a ban. If you have a complaint about a thread or post, report it. Do not drag the thread off topic with arguments, or comments about moderation decisions. If you are not sure whether or not something you wish to post would fall under this category, PM a Moderator to check first.

Do Not Troll, Flame or Attack Other Posters.
People often do not agree as a group with regards to a lot of things. This is fine, if you want to disagree with someone and argue the opposite side in an intelligent and coherent manner, then go right ahead. However attacks against posters personally for views they hold will result in an infraction and/or ban.

    No Swearing/Foul Language.
There's no need to use foul language in this forum. Boards.ie has an inbuilt swear filter, so please don't try to bypass it by using numbers/symbols in place of letters. Posts containing foul language will be edited/deleted and the poster may receive an infraction.

    Think Before You Post.
Money can be a sensitive subject and often people may find certain things frustrating, however we would ask that users refrain from posting incoherent rants on the forum just to 'vent'. If you post as clearly and coherently as possible, other posters will be able to respond and offer advice. If your post is just basically one big rant, it will be deleted.

    No Txt Spk.
Its hrd 2 rd wen u typ lik dis. Money is a grown up topic...so don't use Txt Spk!

    No Dishonest Dealings.
Don't ask how to get around repaying debts/defaulting/giving false information for loans etc - basically if it's not above board, and legal, it's not allowed. This includes advising posters to do it/how to do it.

Do not request info/contact details on Moneylenders (either Licensed or Unlicensed).
No exceptions. If a poster finds themselves in financial difficulty they should contact the institutions involved, and get in touch with MABS.

    No Speculating.
'Is Financial Institution 'X' in Trouble?' type threads are not permitted.

Don't 'Bump' your thread/Ressurect old threads.
Don't drag up an old thread to post something (and by old, we mean anything that hasn't had a post in a month or so), and don't bump your own threads just to get attention. The only exception to this is if an OP comes back to post an update on a situation. Anything else will be locked.

What happens if I break the rules?

If a user breaks the forum/site rules, a Moderator will take one or more of the following actions:

Issue an on-thread warning to the poster/s involved - this can be used in cases of more minor rule breaches, or else in accompaniment to a warning/infraction/ban.
Issue a Warning - this shows that a user has been formally warned about their behaviour.
Issue an Infraction - these are issued in the case of more serious rule breaches, or to repeat offenders. They can often accompany a forum ban. Infraction points expire after 10 days. Users who rack up 10 active infractions will receive a 1 week site ban.

Issue a Forum Ban - for more serious or repeated breaches of the forum/site rules, a Moderator may temporarily ban a user from the forum. The length of the ban is at the Moderator's discretion, and can last from 1 day upwards. Persistent troublemakers will find themselves banned from the forum permanently.

If you feel you have been unfairly Warned/Infracted and wish to appeal it, please PM the moderator who issued it. Do not drag the thread off topic by arguing with the moderators, not only is it unhelpful to other users, it will probably result in you receiving another Warning/Infraction/Ban.

If you have not received a reply via PM in a reasonable amount of time (please allow at least a day, the mods are volunteers and aren’t online 24/7) try to PM another moderator of that forum. If there is only one moderator for the forum and they haven't replied, or you wish to escalate the issue, then please follow the procedures outlined in the Dispute Resolution Forum.
