    HI,

What are peoples views on commission only sales jobs?? IS there anyone here working in such a role??

My housemate has been offered a commission only sales role. Its is selling energy products (electricity&gas) to business's. I looked at their website and they offer savings of up to 30% on your elec/gas bills. They dont sell into the residential market so while it will be door to door sales it will be on the main street as opposed to housing estates. She will be paid 50 euro for everyone she signs up. She said that if she called into say 30 business's in a town in one day and ten signed up then obviously that would be 500 euro in her pocket. I cant see it being that easy for her. So a few questions for anyone in a similar role............

Do you find you can make good money from it as I know from working in sales previously that no matter how much of a saving you offer, some people are not willing to change provider of a service. What are the standard conversion rates from meetings/calling into business's

If anyone here is a business owner would you welcome this kind of savings?? Would you entertain someone who walked into your business claiming they can save you x amount on your elec/gas bill every month or would to tell them to fcuk of and stop wasting my time( as so many residential door to door salespeople have to endure daily)

    THanks for reading

lol, there's no chance in hell she will sign up 10 out of 30 businesses.

If she's desperate for work then it won't do her any harm to try it for a couple of weeks. But she'll need to be a very good sales person to actually make a living from it.

If it were residential, you can knock on 100 doors in a day, but only get to speak to 20/30 people, of which you'd be lucky to get even 5 sales.

Generally speaking, people who run businesses are pretty busy, and will be unable to speak to her, that's if they are even on the premises! Normal staff won't be able to make those kind of decisions.

I hear where you are coming from. She spoke to one of their reps and he said a usual consultation takes about ten mins. If they are interested in the service they fill out a form and the rest is sorted out by the company.

She also did ask him about the fact that getting to talk to decision makers may be hard to do and he said that as times are tight that many owners can be found in the business(shops, restaurants, cafes etc) on a daily basis as they have to save money on staff costs. She is a good sales person and i believe should she get the chance to talk to a decision maker and show them the savings to be made that she should make the sale.
