Les Paul info

I've never owned a Les Paul, I have PRS Custom 22 at the moment, but I'd like to have one, and I am only going to buy one guitar this year (probably !) so I'd really apreciate some advice.

Is there enough of a difference between the PRS and Gibbo to justify the purchase and given the amount of models available is there a "best of" the current models out there.

To put it in context, I play most styles bar Jazz and metal. I don't have a specific budget, if it's the right guitar I'll spend the money.

In terms of neck profiles, the PRS is a wide thin, but I have a nocaster with a chunky c too, so again it's not a big issue.

    All advice greatly appreciated.

Id stear clear of gibson. Full stop. PRS singlecut or a Bacchus duke are the only two ways to go really!

I've never played a PRS to compare, but I have a 93 Les Paul Custom and I absolutely love it. Theres a place in ballymount called jimis guitar shop, they usually have a good few nice Les Pauls in there, I'd say go to a few different guitar shops and have a play of some yourself and see what you think.

I have had plenty of PRS, including a couple of Singlecuts. I also have a 93' LP Standard and a Bacchus Les Paul Goldtop vintage spec. I also owned a 2005 Gibson LP Standard in ebony.

PRS really are in a different class. The newer Gibsons are not worth the expensive price tag. The one i go too more often, is the Bacchus Goldtop. €650 used or so on ebay.

The Les Paul is not very versatile. It only does one thing. But if you want one, i would suggest an early 90's model. In Sunburst of course. Another thing, the Sunburst Les Pauls are not painted on the back of the neck like the Ebony models, which to my hands, feels more natural and easier to move up and down.

O yeah id also say if your going the gibson route, check out jimis music. They have some nice vintage les pauls which are going to be a hell of a lot nicer than the stuff gibson are producing today.

they have a website here :

It all depends how much that one spend is going to be...59 reissue...I've a 2005 standard and I love it. These are getting great reviews:

A friend of mine used one of these at a gig on Friday night and it was great. In the same gig he used a 20 year old les paul and this new one stood up to it tone wise.

don't bother with them gibson quality has gone down the drain lately when i bought my first proper (i.e not encore) guitar 2 years ago i tested a fender tele and a les paul. the gibson was horrible really dull tone dead sounding whereas the tele was had really strong sound and the treble was sweet it's a pity my amp is **** i might get more out of it. I'm not trying to steer you towards fender but stay the hell away from gibsons when they waste all their time and money on robot guitars everything else suffers
