Just to let the boards bargin hunters know that I picked up a Seagate expansion 1T external hard drive for €69 in DID Blanch. I don't claim to be an expert but I went out looking for extra storage for the PC at home and having checked out a couple of bricks and mortar shops and on-line, this was the cheapest I could find.

Seemed to be a one day only offer, there was an iomega 1T external hard drive in Harvey Normans just around the corner from them for €89, again in my limited experience this seemed a good enough price.

Horrific reputation for failures on the 1 and 1.5TB Expansion drives. I've got mine going back to Dabs on Monday.

Oh well :( hopefully you're wrong, where did you read this, presumably you didn't know before buying.

Did you keep yours plugged in constantly or switch on as needed, hopefully being aware of any problems might prolong the life of mine. Best of luck on monday, knowing my luck; mine will calf the day after the warranty runs out.

Just google "Seagate Expansion problems" or have a look at the drive on Amazon. Only had mine since September, but it has been clicking and juddering for a while. I didn't do my research in advance on it. Switched on and off as needed, but apparently they can go out of the box.
