FÁS Online Learning

    Hey Guys,

I'm currently looking for employment (something basic like shop assistant etc... or maybe office admin as I only have an Leaving Cert which I did last year).

I'm thinking about doing a course to both bulk up my CV and to keep busy. I notice that FÁS do distance learning which sounds good.

What are these courses like? How do you do them exactly? Is there a test at the end etc.... How long do they take?

And perhaps most importantly, are they respected by employers? I.e. will an employer be impressed or at least interested by somebody with a FAS course under their belt?

I'm thinking of doing Bookkeeping and Payroll because I'm pretty good at accounts etc..

    So... FAS courses?

    Thanks,
    Dean.

    Hi Dean088,

I am in the learning industry, hence my response...while not familiar with the Fas offerings (I've just looked at the website)..it is unlikely that the entire course will be online if it is something like book-keeping that you intend to do- more like a 'blended' learning approach i.e. a combination of classroom and online learning..especially if it involves certification as there is a note on the website under the online option, stating that their online business courses do not currently have certification
...if unemployed, there may be subsidies or free tuition available to you for Fas courses, but if you have access to some funding, then doing a night course in accounting etc might be a better route depending on the qualification you are looking for, leaving you free and available for day-time work...
.saying that....ANY course you do while unemployed, will show an employer that you weren't willing to just do nothing while searching for a job....they will most likely challenge you on what you did with your time while unemployed (obviously besides looking for a job) so showing any sort of initiative to improve your skills will help....best wishes with the job hunt...I hope you get something soon..
