Unfortunatly due to the severly cold weather the beaters found it extremely difficult to get the boar moving from the heavy cover. One pariculary large boar lashed out at a group of dogs, sadly killing three and sending more off to the vet. The type of dogs used varies greatly. There were many terrier crosses and they did have a rottweiller to hand to go in after wounded boar on one of the days.

Read up on the prices there and its
€3500 (per Hunter) for 4 days hunting, Jeep rental, Accommodation , Food. They clean your boar out for you and stuff the trophies.
    Nice.
How did they get all the pork home?

it worked out at about 950 per hunter plus flights for the four days. the cost comes down the bigger the hunting party. The hunting ground was in it's last year of a three year meat selling ban. They could only sell to game dealers and not to the public. So unfortunatly we didn't get the opportunity to sample any of our quarry.

There is a cheaper alternative if that seems a bit on the steep side in the current climate. That is to go high seat shooting. You could go for one of two options. One where they bait around the seat in the morning, which works out at approx. 650 euro. Or 350 for the high seat for the few days and take your chances. It might be worth mentioning if you don't get a shot with the baited option, you only pay the unbaited price. Were looking to go back in May for this option and se how we get on.

when i was in oz there was one or two of the locals there that did that boar hunting. they used pit~bull rottweiller cross dogs for the hunting. serious looking cainines. they said some trips they were on the dogs take a real hammering and even a few fatalities. . . big risk for the return i think. .

How many of you went the first time around?
How many dogs did you loose altogether?
Don't think i'd be into it if the dog was killed.

There were 18 of us in total. The loss of the dogs put a sad tone to the trip. I don't believe that it happens too often. Three dogs in total died from their injuries sustained in the one incident with the large boar. I must say, it was my first time hunting in Hungary and I was impressed by the Hungarians respect that they have for the animals, tradition and hunting in general. The death of the dogs was not taken lightly by the organisers and I'm sure as dog owners we can all agree the loss of a hunting companion/pet is tragic.

Very harsh alright, but then again could loose a dog out hunting here as well.
