Just wondering if there's any large cars with an automatic gearbox in this price range.

Seems that you have to go for a Focus type car to get the auto in this price range from what I've seen.

Thatseems VERY expensive for a Focus considering they are advertising the new Golf starting at 18k. An Auto shouldn't be another 14k.

After a quick look on Carzone, you could get a 09 Jag X Type, and im sure you could get a 3 Series for the same. Or a '10 Mondeo/Passat/Avensis for within your budget

New, used or open to suggestions? How big a car do you need?

Go and speak to your local Ford dealer. For a limited period the Mondeo will be available with the PowerShift Auto box (similar to DSG) for free on the 2.0TDCi engine. Orders only, built after mid March so you'll be waiting until April

Should come in to budget in Zetec spec I reckon. The PowerShift with the 2.0Tdci worked very well in the S40 so should be just as good in the Mondeo.

If the Mondeo isn't big enough for you then....................

    ***EDIT
    http://www.carzone.ie/new-cars/Ford/Mondeo/2.0TDCI-140PS-TITANIUM/752726820091222/

Barring a huge price increase for the 2010.5 models, the Titanium 2.0TDCi should be able to be bought with metallic and delivery for under €32k with the free PowerShift. No need to add any extra's above metallic as it's pretty well loaded as standard.

You'd get an SE Insignia with a couple of extras for less than 29k if you're a cash buyer (thank you R.O.R!!)

The automatic version is 3k more on all models so that would also be in your price range

You could get an Insignia Elite for €30,000 with an Auto.

You could get a Focus Saloon with Auto. 2.0TDCi Titanium for around €22,500 but why would you, its a horrible car.

You could get a Skoda Superb Elegance 1.9TDi €29,000 Auto

You could get a Skoda Octavia VRs 2.0TDi Auto for €28,500

Huh? Superb 2.0TDi DSG Elegance should come in to budget on a straight sale. 170 Ambition DSG if you want more power.

You'd be doing well to get an Insignia Elite Auto for €30,000. 5dr lists at over €37k and there isn't that much discount. Tax is also in 28% bracker as they haven't ecoFLEX'd the Auto's.

Meh I was giving the OP the best price as I don't think the 170 Insignia is really all that much. The 1.9 was enough for me.

The price for the Insignia is from Hinchys Opel, Garryspillane from Mid January.

They don't do the Super with a 1.9DSG as far as I'm aware.

Was €30k for an Auto Insignia Elite? If so, that's a good price as I'd say it costs the dealer more than that for one.

I drove a 1.9 TDi Auto or at least that's what he told me I test drove. I drove both the manual and auto but he said both were 1.9TDi.

Sh*t. I need to correct myself. €30k for an SC Sport pack Auto. €31,500 for an Elite with Auto. Im just looking at the handwritten quote here which I fetched from my "crap drawer" in the kitchen.

    Couple of extra details

Company car so need to be new.
Low carbon - band D max for BIK reasons.

Mondeo or Superb are probably in the hunt alright.

Not Auto but you would get a Lexus IS220d for your money.
