Finding iphones

Just wanted to see why is it, considering the iphone is so up to date with date, internet, google maps etc and yet if they get stolen they cant be located without another app of some sort, or am i wrong?

I cant understand how with it being connected to internet (if the robber/new purchaser does) it would or should give off an ip address or phone number of some sort to track it down.

Am i thinking into it too much or is anything possible with them?

There are several apps out there that can do it. Some are only for Jailbroken phones, but MobileMe can do it as well.

Im on about without apps, as quoted above ;)

I wasnt clever enough to think the worst could happen to me and never looked into how to protect it :(

Think about it, without an app, the iPhone is just a piece of electronics. In order for it to report its position, some sort of app is needed, the electronics inside the phone won't do it on their own.

I just wasnt sure if without an app the phone could track a new sim card number or IP address that way. Maybe it can but operators have better things to do except have lots of these types of requests:confused:
