Does anyone know the penalties for companies making false claims on a prduct? Basically I caught out a company making a false claim on a product..its in the offical channels now so I wont mention any names or details....but what typically are the penalties?

Most marketing claims I hear are very vague and would be very difficult to prove as being false. How did you go about complaining? i.e. what are the official channels, do you have to be involved with it any further? or get reports about what is being done?
