Not on official plan, can I use tethering?

Hey guys, so I bought my iPhone 3Gs in August (yes on Prepay :( €609), I am using my old plan that I was using on my N95 and I used tethering a lot with my old phone.

I'm just wondering , seeing as I got the carrier update with the option of tethering, if I would be able to use it with my 1GB data addon?

And if so, are there any special settings required?

You've got a prepay iPhone with O2, and the tethering option appeared? I'm on billpay, so I don't know if that is normal. Also, I don't know (but I very much doubt) if you can use your data add-on for tethering - I can't use mine; they insist on selling me a separate tethering add-on. (Yes, I know, that's a rip-off.)

All I will say is, be very careful that you know how much it's going to cost you before you start tethering. If you're not "meant" to be doing it, they may charge you 1c per KB. That's €10.24 per MB. Or €10,485.76 per GB. I kid you not, that's what it would cost me to use tethering with my existing data add-on, without a tethering add-on.

Do you know about the O2 forums, at forum.o2online.ie? The iPhone forum over there has some fairly heated discussions about this at the moment; people who tried out tethering for a few minutes, and got a charge of €200+ added to their bill....

That's also the place to find out what you *can* safely do, however.

Good luck - and be careful out there! :)

So o2 are saying that I am unable to tether MY iPhone to MY Mac unless I purchase another data addon even though in the o2 forums thread it states I don't. Can anyone explain, because o2 sure arent

On the forums it said that you have to buy a bundle cause you are on a clear plan.
