Manuals are generally easier on the juice than autos. Don't know anything about the box in this car though.

Can't say for sure but is it not a dsg?Think the came out in 03. plenty of 2005 dsg's about a great box, computer controlled manual with twin clutch, more economical than a manual.

I drove the same engine and gearbox in a Passat for 25k miles......fabulous. For me, a manual wouldn't get a look in.

I like the spec of the car too, which adds to it.

Yes, it'll use a bit more juice than the manual if you drive it the same (2 mpg ?). But there again, it doesn't have a clutch to wear out. But you'll find it more relaxing to drive, and drive it differently to a manual in the first place, so the juice difference will be tiny.

That one is a Tiptronic, not a Multitronic. The Tip has a good reputation, generally. My old fart Tiptronic is a '93, with 158k miles on it, still working perfectly.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Thanks, We went for a spin with mate earlier and its a fine motor. Boot is smaller than his present 99 Passat but its very tempting.

Always good to get a recomendation. Cheers.

Avoid the Audi Multitronic boxes. Nothing but trouble. Tiptronic (if it is actually Tiptronic) should be fine.

I'm not entirely sure but I think it was only the quattro's and upper scale models that were tiptronic.

So if its a Passat late 2005 DSG or later it should be ok?

In last months Car Mechanics magazine, Audi's Multitronic gearboxes were dubbed the MultiChronic :) They advised to steer clear.

If you want an Audi with an automatic transmission though, sometimes you haven't much choice. Cars like the A4 Cabriolet are particularly undesirable second hand without it.
