    Great news. Link here

It's the "trail track" that will be 1.1km. If they have any sense, any velodrome track would be the standard 250m length

the trail track is for mtb/bmx, theres a proper velodrome not a km long velodrome

when they say velodrome, do they mean an indoor one?

the minister for sport was on newstalk a few weeks back and he was asked about a velodrome, and he was saying his plan is to build a massive olympic training complex in Abbotstown that will train all our olympic athlethes, and a proper velodrome, as he belives the model in england could quite easily work here

the sooner the better if you ask me

The Abbotstown one has been shelved indefinitely due to lack of money.

I am pretty sure they are talking about an outdoor one. The article states:

"The velodrome itself shall be semi-built into the contours of the site and be suitably landscaped and will accommodate spectators."

They do mean an indoor one apparently. Its still in very early stages though.

Is there a court based sport that a velodrome can be matched with like basketball?

I've heard of velodromes being built in ice hockey rinks...
Not much use in ireland though...

Manchester Giants basketball team used to to play quite regularly at Manchester velodrome

They can actually get the full arena and room for spectators inside the 250m track.

They still regularly use the velodrome for badminton and netball (you often get people playing while on the track)

Funnily enough there is already an ice hockey rink in Dundalk.
