    hello folks,
basically i am doing a project and i need some advise from builders or anyone familiar with window cill construction/cavity wall.
i am constructing a model of the detail at the cill of the window. i have the imitation walls made up to 100mm,inner and outer leafs and the 100mm cavity in between. i have a cutting of a window cill,8 inches long that i will place on top of the model. basicall i just need to know what detail i must show, ie you will be looking at cill from the side so you will see wall, cavity, insulation board etc. i need to know where to put the DPC, basically show all the small details so it will resemble the construction of a window cill in a modern house. it would be great if someone could provide me with appropriate measurements. is it sufficent to have a 60mm insulation board etc. im am placing a window board on the model, but no window.need to know where to put this and everything else so it looks bang on. it is a relatively small model, being shown 3 bricks heigh (65mm) and 10mm plaster.so it comes to 290mm heigh and 600mm in length.
i hope this makes sence and would appreciate some help.

Firstly you would need to use something to show the bottom rail of the actual window otherwise the detail wont be complete.
Ensure you fix your insulation tight to inner leaf of wall and position a wall tie to show how its fixed.
In relation to insulation, the actual amount required would depend on the overall structure & the energy requirement etc however you should show the minimum level of insulation to provide a U value of 0.27... You could note then that thickness will vary.
At the cill, you need to provide a dpm under the entire cill & up the back of the cill to its full height. It must also go up both sides of the cill but you may or may not be showing that in this model.
You should show insulation to the back of the cill also.
The net will provide you with this detail as there is alot to explain.
If I was doing it, I would build up one end a few bricks above cill level so that you can show the vertical dpc at the side of the window running down onto the cill. An L staped peice of window frame would be excellent so you would have the base rail & a bit of vertical rail shown together with cavity closing detail to the side with the vertcial damp course.
    Is this for leaving cert?
A bit of net research should get you all you need to know. It is common now also to leave a cavity bigger than 100mm... say 120 to 150mm cavity with 80 to 100mm insuation. Alternatively you might want to show an insulated slab internally.
Nice project but do your research
