ReverbNation 'Premium Services' - folks experiences/opinions and stuff

Looking for folks opinions on the ReverbNation setup as a means to promote a completed project.
    As a background ....

I'm back at a point of having finished another musical project and considering ways of doing some low-key promotion for the thing. Self promo has never been a strong part of my musical adventure so I'm coming kicking and screaming to this as I do every year or so when I finish a project.

In reality, I tend to sell enough music to cover costs and more importantly gain me access to some nice opportunities to travel for free and play in the sun. That's pretty much all I'm interested in doing. Hell, I'm doing spacey ambient electronic music based around Australian field recordings, it's not going to earn a packet or land me on the cover of the NME.

Anyway, the general plan (as usual) is to sell a few CD versions of the new music (maybe via CD Baby again though maybe not) & flog digital versions through the usual outlets to cover costs, and then give it all away for free once I break even. It's worked out OK so far and I've no real desire to start losing sleep over this or deal again with a management company or label, being an elitist bastard like I am. The new project has already sold enough advance copies to pay for the duplication, printing and everything to get a physical product so that's a bonus.

So, Reverbnation Premium Services or alternatives, what ya think? It's not a lot of money or effort but if you've used it, has it given back more than you put in?

And many thanks for your thoughts and opinions. Sorry if it all comes across as airy fairy in a 'harsh business environment' and all that stuff. I'm passionate about what I'm doing, spend 12 months on each project and then just want to do occasional live work and move on to the next project in the series. For sure I'll post up download/listening links shortly. Soma Gallery and the Arts Office in Waterford are doing a launch event some time in the next month or so and I'll post an invite for anyone who feels like getting spaced on a Friday night in Waterford with a free bar and the chance of a sausage roll.

BTW. Thanks to folks here who've provided help to others over the last while. I've taken much on board during the recording process and had many reasons to go back over my work based on what I've learned here.

    Thanks,
    Mick.

    Gregg. I don't really know.

What do you intend from the promotion?

They're might be other ways to do it etc

The evil side of me has considered setting up a music promotion company purely to fleece people. I'm getting the impression these days a lot of the music business is a scam to take vanity money.

you might do better making the calls yourself and other stuff

If you're intent on spending money there may be better ways to spend it.

Say like if you'd like a small review in the NME, the best way of getting it would be to call them up and beg them for one. Or uncut

    cheers for the reply krd,
not too worried about stuff like reviews and that sort of thing. It's more an easy/painless way to get things like digital distribution to the usual suspects, itunes, amazon, etc taken care of. I've done this before via cd-baby and was wondering about reverbnation mostly because it seems to offer a more all-round service to musicians. For sure I can take care of this myself but happy to invest if it's a case of balancing out the best use of time/money and stuff like that.
