Broken Keys

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong place, I'm not really sure where else to put it. :o

So, as the title suggests, two keys on my laptop have broken; the O key has fallen off, hook and everything, and the Q key is wobbly and hard to use, and can be lifted and the hook can be seen.

It's still under warranty (bought in May 2009 sometime), and it wasn't my fault as Sony are suggesting. I havent dropped it, and although the O key has fallen off before, it's always clicked back into place because the hook hadn't fallen off until this time.

Sony have said they'll come and see it, and if they judge that it was my fault the repair charge will be €170. The laptop was about..600, so this seems a complete robbery in my opinion, but I'm not sure how much two keys cost to repair. Mainly, it wasnt my fault, and I didnt go around smashing it off walls (seriously, the Q key?), so I'm wondering if
    a) Sony are right to charge €170 while its under warranty (apparently only the harddrive is under warranty, or something to that effect); and
    b) If anyone else has had a similar experience with a Sony Vaio?

Thanks, and once again, sorry if this is in the wrong place. :o

    an hour to fit...

keyboards are expensive, but broken keys can be replaced, use google.

obv if the plastic clippings are broke its no use, but if they are intact, you can snap them on

well about 12 minutes, but the billing would be per hour or part thereof

Yeah, I tried Google before. The O key's clip broke off too, the Q one is there but it won't snap on...

Hmm, thats pretty expensive. :/ It's not really a bother to me, I'm just thinking if it needed some other kind of repair they'd reject it because of it. But either way, thanks for the replies. :)

What model number is the Laptop? New/used keyboards should only cost about 30 to 50 or so.

I had a problem with Sony a number of years ago (laptop broke after 14months) ..... to which I was given the number of a guy in england to complain to ...its an answering machine which they obviously never reply to - absolutely hate sony with a passion.

Laptop was never fixed and I have bought anything but sony since, in their defence I didnt know what to do (I was young and nieve) - if it happened now I'd follow full legal procedure and get what I'm owed.

still waiting on a model number here, you could probably get the keyboard off ebay.
