You can't get much better value than that

Five years warranty, Bluetooth phone kit and the fuel efficient diesel engine all for a shade over twenty grand. It may be as dull as you can get in the D segment, but that is indisputably good value for money.

Wow. Not sure I could abide a Laguna in base spec but a cracking deal.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,374 ✭✭✭Saab Ed

Its not exactly true. That price excludes delivery and met paint and its with all scrappage off the top....but its still great value at that money. ;)

I got an email off CBG about this, it has good enough spec when you compare it with cars for similar money (Corolla/Golf etc) It has bluetooth and aircon etc.

The normal price of that 5 year unlimited mileage warranty is around 750 quid on the Laguna. It's cheaper on the Megane.

The Megane estate is probably better value than the Laguna now as Renault appear to be giving more off the list price on it.

The Renault buying frenzy appears to be continuing for the moment at least. Dealers are swamped. Yards are filling up with the (crappy) trade ins they're taking in.

Many of the "crappy" trade ins are far better than the Renaults some unsuspecting punter is driving away in. By better I mean many if them would cover the next 3 years without a breakdown or a visit to a garage outside of routine servicing.

Evidence? Or is that just more pub talk.

Pretty funny actually. Renault offers huge discounts, 5 year unlimited mileage warranties. An independent organisation, the ADAC says that Renaults built since about 2005 are very reliable, at or near the top of their classes. If anecdotal stuff is more your thing there is no bad news about the Laguna III on the honestjohn website.

    But you know better

Well i know of a 1999 Avensis that was mint & a 2000 Primera that both have been replaced by the Renault Megane, I reckon neither of them would break down over the coming years. I don't do pub talk, but anyone who reckons Renault have sorted their miserable build quality and reliability issues are believing salesman patter. The same patter that was said of the 96 Megane and the 2004 one.

    Honest John website, ffs

Why are Renault offering these huge discounts ?
Also how are they faring in the top sellers in Ireland for 2010 ?

Roverjames, you never miss an opportunity do you, what's with that chip on your shoulder ?

Anyway, I had a good look at the Laguna Coupe, great looking car imo.

In this thread I remarked how many of the trade ins are far from crap.
In the other I think you are referring to I remarked how the OP was not in fact powersliding his BMW this morning, which he admitted he wasn't doing. No chip on my shoulder but manu of the "enthusiasts" on this site know sfa about cars, despite their post counts.

I have also commented that Renault make a fantastic diesel engine in may threads.

I'm not talking about this mornings thread, I'm talking about practically every other thread about Renault where you spout the same rubbish and then try back up your claims by insulting the regulars of this forum in a particularly condescending fashion.

Renaults are ok but once you buy one your stuck with it. Trading for another brand will involve hefty depreciation. However the spec on the megane is fantastic compared to corollas etc.If i was in this market i would seriously consider one though.

those who preach from top gear and honest john etc who accuse other folk of spouting pub talk dont bring out the best in me. Anyone who doesnt recommend the rencults no here gets a public stoneing, cheap and a warranty does not mean reliable.

also the warrenty isnt from the manufacturer, folks should really only post if they are informed

I havent heard a single bad thing about new Lagunas/Meganes.

Actually, I haven't heard a single bad thing about last gen facelift Lagunas either.

And from your posts, I'm gathering you haven't either RoverJames.

Have to laugh at bitter fanboys of other marques attempting to spoil the numerous positive Renault threads in this forum recently. For example, nit picking about the warranty. Yes the extended warranty is provided through Renault by a third party - so what? Have you actually read the document that says exactly what is and isn't covered? Maybe you can explain what is so terrible about this warranty.

And tell us, who provides the warranty 4 or 5 years after you buy a new VW, Ford, Honda, Toyota, BMW, Skoda, Audi, Mazda, Opel. Yes that's right the OWNER does. So when a DMF, injectors, turbo or high pressure pump goes (each of which can cost a grand or more to fix) who'll be paying? Answer, the OWNER.

The likes of Ford and Honda do badly in the ADAC stats (which have nothing to do with the claptrap that is Top Gear) based on thousands of callouts collated in a scientific manner. So not only are Hondas and Fords not covered by warranty after 2 or 3 years, they're also more likely to break down.

What's so hard to understand about this?

And as for honestjohn - a flawed resource - but better than some of the sh1te that's being posted in this thread.

Whatever about reliability or not, Renault are playing a blinder at the minute. Whether they are working on tiny margins or whatever, the cars are flying out of the showroom.
They seem to be selling as many megane coupes as they can get so they are moving onto shifting the laguna now. Not a bad deal. Unlimited mileage warranty too. Does it cover everything like the manufacturer warranty or is it a crap add on warranty.
Credit where its due though. They put a sales plan together for the financial climate we are in & they are winning.

I agree, they are getting feet through the door big time, but the cars wouldn't sell on price alone, people I think are really surprised by the quality of the cars they find when they are in there and it's an easy decision to sign on the dotted line.

agreed, I'd say at least 80% of the 2010 cars I've seen on the road are Renaults

You must be driving past a good few Renault garages, 80%

In January Ford was the most popular seller in Ireland with 15.9% of the market, Toyota was 2nd with 12.5% and VW were third with 10.9%. The Fiesta was the best seller followed by the Focus :) Figures are for cars registered in January. At best 1 in 10 (ish) could be Renault.

I shall refrain from posting in all Renault thread going forward, anyone who posts asking about Renaults can rely on the unbiased opinion of those who have bought them recently.

Unbiased and roverjames in the one post, there's something i thought i'd never see. But your suggestion to stop poisoning threads with your chip will be welcomed.

Can we make this more about the posts and less about the posters, please?

Of course it was probably an exaggeration to say 80%, or perhaps the new Meganes and Clios are particularly eye-catching , but I seem to notice a very large proportion of 2010s that I've seen are Renaults :P

It seems Renault, Fiat and Kia are the two big players when it comes to massive scrappage deals. It's good to see this kind of competition.

The Laguna's a great car - good deal for someone who wants one.
