Bodybuilder from the US

    Hi everyone,

My girlfriend and I will be moving to the ROI from the US, early next year. I was hoping someone here could help me with a question I can't find answered online. I know that in the UK, steroids are legal to import and possess in personal amounts. I can't seem to find the laws regarding them for Ireland. Does anyone know exactly?

By the way, I know steroids can be controversial and I'd rather not turn this into a debate. I'm a former competitive bodybuilder and have used anabolics on and off for years. Please don't go on about what a bad person I am, how my penis disappeared, etc. :p Just looking for the actual laws please, lol.

Illegal in Ireland but legal over the border in Northern Ireland (kind of similiar to Americans going to Mexico to get steroids)
That said if customs were to catch you the most you would recieve is a strongly worded letter saying they had been seized and destroyed.

Too bad, I was hoping the laws would be the same as the UK. Well, legal to possess is one step up from here anyway. I'd also imagine the government doesn't go on the sort of witch hunt that they do over here.

Another question for ya: We USED to have " friendly " docs here who would work with athletes. They wouldn't prescribe a ton, but you could get a moderate amount of a couple things. That is until the government went on their witch hunt a few years back and started actually raiding doctor's offices and pharmacies....simply for prescribing steroids. How do docs over there usually view it?

Thanks for the replies by the way! :pac:

You could try asking under the Health Professions in Science....but our doctors are in the main extremely law-abiding!

I think this is one of the most dangerous sides of boards, peoples opinions turned into (wrong) facts.

In the UK steroids are an illegal drug (they were added to the illegal drugs act in 2007), the same class as cannabis. If caught with a "personal supply" (which btw will be determined by the medicinal use eg 1 250mg amp is a months supply so if caught with 60 its 5 years worth of medicinal use and would probably be considered not personal use since they only have an expiry of 3 years...) If convicted you will be tried under the misuse of drugs act and be treated like a heroin dealer.

In Ireland they never added steroids to the illegal drugs list so they are just medications. Therefore you can personally import (once you have a valid prescription and no mail order allowed). If caught selling you will be charged with trading as a doctor without a doctors license but to have for personal use is not illegal. Obviously if I was you I wouldn't be bringing them in personally from the US or you will probably never get to Ireland!
