Actually we went to the pop orchestra in City Hall in second year, we are supposed to be going to the beach aswell but I doubt that is going to happen...

We went on a six hour hike to glendalough back in first year followed by a swim in the river :p

Best tour I've ever went on.

We went to delphi mountain resort in september of first year on a "bonding" trip for 3 days. It was so class, actually enjoyed myself so much.

I went to Kilary Adventure Centre back when I was in 1st year. My school still does that.

Did it again in 4th year if you didnt go on some silly pilgrimage.

In first year it was Spain and in second year it was Paris. I didn't go on any of them. I'm poor lol.

Oh wait. I went to Kilfinane in Limerick on some kind of outdoor activities thingy.

My year stayed in Lisdoonvarna for three nights and went to the Ailwee Caves, Dún Aengus, Inismór, Bunratty Castle, etc. in first year.

    It was good craic.

We went to some place (could have been called Kilkey/Kilrey) and did these challenge yokes in groups, suppose you could have called it a kind of bonding experience (although we had already bonded because it was in April, I think). Then we climbed the sand dunes at strand hill (I was shaking sand out of my runners for about a week afterwards). We finished the day with some shopping in some shopping centre somewhere in Sligo.

We were supposed to go to Paris last year but the school couldn't afford to lose a few teachers for a few days and it was too much hassle seemingly although they had done it every other year and ours was the first that didn't get to go.I was really annoyed about that.

M brother got to go tp Barcelona in 2nd year as well.

I went there in second year. I couldn't remember what it was called lol. I fed Pringles to the chickens.

I went to some place in Wexford with crazy golf and bowling, bus broke down for 3 hours half way there and the teacher would only let us off for a quick slash, bitch.
That was all the 1st years in like October that year.
Then in April I went to St. Andrews in Scotland on a golf trip, 1st, 2nd and 3rd years.:D

My school is super strict and it's all about academics so you can imagine the fun we have
In first year we went to an adventure centre for our induction thing. Never went anywhere else, all first and TYs go. Was kinda crap though because we had to do the land stuff, we weren't allowed to do anything invloving water
My brothers and sister were in different schools and they got to go to loads of places. My brothers went on 2 (one went on 3 I think?) ski trips, millions of Celtic matches in Scotland and other places around Ireland and this wasn't even in TY! My sister went on a French exchange in 2nd year, skiing and somewhere esle I can't remember. Although before our current principle, all years went to Italy and loads of cool places.
So in TY in my school some people get to go to Holland. I don't think I'll go though because I'm going to France on my own and it's a lot of money.

But getting back to this, I doubt you'll be going anywhere with the recession and everything, there just isn't the money. I'd say you might, if anywhere, go on an induction sorta trip to get to know everyone though.
    So

In our school, each class in first year has at least one overnight trip to somewhere like the Carlingford centre and another day trip walking in the Dublin mountains.

A small group of second, third and fifth come with me on a two night/three day trip to Krakow to see the Auschwitz memorial and the Wieliczka mines.

TY generally go to either Barcelona or the UK. They decide and fundraise themselves. If they don't then they don't go anywhere.

This year's fifth year Art class are organising a trip to Paris to visit galleries.

Other possible trips abroad come as part of a Comenius project and don't involve whole year groups.

They work out as quite expensive when done through the educational travel agencies. I manage to keep our Polish trip between €200 and €250 (for everything) only because I can speak some Polish and have contacts there who do us deals as they know we will be back every year.

We have mentors too & my principal is J.N :p

Don't think they're exclusive to your school.

    5th

I skipped TY though so technically it's "LC1".

Ah I was going to ask about TY in our school. I hear it's good so I applied and did the interview, results after these horrible mocks :( I hear from my friends that 5th year is harder though and they miss the JC :p

You'll probably get in to TY easily enough so long as you're not 16 at the time of the interview. Anyways, TY is great apparently, you do almost everything and there's a few cool modules like Film Studies and the like. A few people regret doing it because while we are almost finished 5th year and only have one year of school left the ones that did TY still have more than two years to go. There's a massive jump between JC and LC. Everything gets much more detailed and if you were able to sail through the JC (As I did) you will have to start working properly during 5th year. Don't let that scare you though. I went straight from 3rd year to 5th year and I'm doing absolutely fine and so is everyone else. It's overwhelming for the first few weeks but then you just get used to the work needed.

I was 15 and lied about everything on the interview. "Why do you want to do TY?" "I would like to broaden my career options and make friends outside my immediate class group" :pac: All lies! The reasons I want to do TY is stuff like that, new languages and having a chance to think about my career but I bent the truth a little XD

It'll be weird seeing my friends all finish school ahead of me but I'd still love to get in :D Only thing worrying me is that I'll be 16 if I do TY in November, then 17 in 5th year and 18 doing the LC. I hear they accept all the younger people first and then do older people so mehh.

In second and fourth year, we go skiing in Austria. We also have the choice to go to Paris in fourth year. I didn't go skiing last year though, because I went to Nantes in France with the football team for a tournament.

It was class! Going back next year again...

I usually dont go on schools tours as in our school they go into summer breakand they colide with my holiday plans, but in first year my year went to a Villa-Newcatsle season-closing game and a 2-day stay at some entertainment centre. Paintbal et cetera.

Next year as always there is a ski trip to Canada which i would love to go on, but the date for me is unacceptable!

Are you in an all-boys school?

Yes. Does it just sound boy-ish, or do you have some idea of what school it can be?:D

    Haha, I've no idea, don't worry. ;)

It's just that I doubt girls would be very happy at the prospect of going to a football match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,724 ✭✭✭mixery

No, that's no problem whatsoever, I'm not in any way ashamed of my comments :) . But another school in area have 2 tours a year. One normal, let's say academical and the other is usually a soccer match and rec. They've beeen in Italy lately I think. And it's a mixed school. Maybe it's the fact that most girls there are rotten:D.
