    Hey folks,

Little advice needed here, I need a car but wouldn't be the best at knowing what to look for in a second hand car to see if its a shiney banger or a good car. I don't know any mechanics who could help me. :(

Any ideas what i could do to look? Is it worth going to a dealer and getting a car with a warranty?

At the moment I drive a spare family car(99 Colt) about 400 miles a week and its fine. Time to grow up and buy my own car though!

    thanking you...

Same again would be good. (1.2-1.4) Suppose Diesel would preferable with the milage but not hugely....

really its reliabilty I'm after, can handle reasonable milage on on poor quality roads too.

The AA will do an inspection for you. All you need to do is pick your car.

I'd stay away from small diesels unless you are going very modern car. It also depends on how much money you want to spend. Plenty of good cheap cars around, there just aren't many in the 1.0-1.4 range as everyone wants these.

Thanks for the AA link. didn't know they offered such a service. Any idea of the price scale?
